Swift throws his hands in the air, turns, and storms off.

Maverick steps up beside me. “Pres, I’ll come if you need backup?”

“I need you to stay here and make sure everyone is safe. I don’t know what shit is about to head our way, but I feel this is only the damn beginning. I’ll have my cell with me. Call if any shit starts.”

Maverick nods. “Got it! And Pres?” I glance at him, and he continues, “Bring Haven home.”

Gripping his shoulder, I nod and glance over at Poppy once more. I still don’t believe my little girl is here, but she smiles at me, and that simple gesture gives me the strength I need to getthrough this as I head out.

I could have had my brothers fight alongside me, but I need to show Haven that I have her back. And if there is the slightest possibility I am walking into a trap, I don’t want any of my brothers taken down with me.

I have to do this alone.

It’s the only way.

Rushing past the farm, down the back of the compound to the open field, I know there’s only one way I’m going to gain time on Haven, and that’s in my helo. Stepping up, I jump inside the pilot’s seat. My mind always darts momentarily back to when I was in the Army and serving as a pilot in the Special Forces, but I push all that aside. Using the tech pad logged into the clubhouse, I code in the ID and send a ping to Loki, asking for any information on Haven’s location, lifting the helo into the air.

I know the direction of the border, so I take off, waiting for the information to come back. It only takes a few moments, but security footage pings back from the clubhouse gates of a white van—the clubhouse van. It shows Haven and Poppy jumping out and Rip talking to them. I spot the license, take a snapshot of it, and flick it to the screen before me to see it. Loki sends me the tracker information for the van, and I plug it in, while I fly over the highway on the way to Tijuana, hoping the program will pull a ping from above. At the same time, I am using the software in the helo to triangulate her cell signal.

I fly so low I see people through their sunroofs when they look up at me. Their eyes are wide in shock, but I keep going, following the tracker. The highway is thinning out, the stretch of road longer with less traffic, making it easier to read the cars when I get a ping from Haven’s cell.

I narrow the search, watching as the ping leads me to a van about a quarter of a mile up the road. Zooming my camera in on the van, I see the license plate is the same one I am looking for,and it’s also pinging from her cell and the tracker is lighting up like a beacon. Thishasto be her.

Pushing forward on the cyclic, the helo tilts down at the front, redirecting the power from lift to thrust, propelling it faster through the air to get to Haven. Flying over the top of the van and a few yards ahead of her, I lower it sideways on the highway. She can clearly see me. The rotor blades continue to cut through the air while cars grind to a halt, trying to avoid the giant helo taking up all lanes of the highway when Haven’s van skids to a stop right in front of me.

Pulling off my headphones, I jump out of my seat, leaving the helo running as I watch Haven step out of the van with her brow raised. She storms up to me, the wind whipping over the top of us, the sound of the helo engine whirs through the air. Cars are honking, and people are yelling at us to get the fuck out of the way.

Haven races toward me, her hands in the air in obvious anger. “What the fuck are you doing?” she yells over the commotion.

“I’m here to rescue you,” I reply smugly.

Haven steps up, shoving my chest forcefully. “You fucking idiot. If they see you, they’ll kill you.”

Reaching out, I grab her wrists, pulling her toward me. “I don’t give a shit, Haven. You brought my daughter back to me, and that’s something I will never forget. How long have you known?”

She slumps her body, cars continuing to honk. “Since you showed me Poppy’s photo and told me about her. I put the pieces of the puzzle together instantly.”

“And you’re what? An assassin? Sent to kill me?”

She glances around at the witnesses all making a fuss at us stopping their commute, but I don’t give a shit—I need answers. “Alpha, we don’t need to do this here—”

“Answer me!”

She jumps with the harshness of my tone. “Yes. But I couldn’t do it!”

I try to calm myself because the next question is so important. “Who sent you?”

She glances around, uncomfortable that we’re out in the open, but she continues, the helo blades still whirring overhead, making it hard to hear. “I-I don’t know for sure. But we’re wasting time! I have to get back to The Nest before another bird is sent to you.”

“I’m not fucking letting you go back there on your own, Haven. We need a plan.”

“I think I have one. Let’s return to the chopper and make our way to The Nest. I have some shit I need to settle there. We need to make a call while we’re in the air.”

I don’t know what the fuck she’s planning, but right now, I need to go with it. There are too many unanswered questions, and if I’m going to find the answers, I need to follow my gut and trust her. “Okay, get in the helo. Tell me where to fly this thing.”

She snorts out a laugh. “It’s better if I get us there myself.” She takes off and jumps in the pilot’s seat.

Letting out a small laugh, I should be shocked, but nothing shocks me anymore when it comes to Haven. “What about the van?”
