I grip his shoulder, keeping my voice low. “Whoisthat?”

“Going to The Nest and hiring Blue Jay was the best idea you could have had. It has taken a lot for us to bring this plan to fruition, Dad. It’s taken me years to infiltrate this club and work my way into a position of power, but now that I have, we can take over this clubhouse. I can run this place into the ground now that Alpha is dead. We can tarnish Landry’s name and everything he has built. I had no idea the assassin would grow a fucking conscience and bring his daughter back. I didn’t even know she was still alive, but we can take her and sell her to Rico to get him off the club’s back, so we’re not a target anymore.”

The older guy starts laughing. “Good thinking, Son. Youknow, you would have made a great Special Forces soldier, unlike that sorry excuse that went into the embassy with me and killed all our men. I haveneverforgiven him for that. Well, we showed him, didn’t we, son?”

Swift chuckles down the line. “Yeah, Dad. We showed him!”

“Hey, who’s there?” the older-sounding guy calls out, my heart racing when the call quickly ends.

I jerk my head back, turning to Alpha to see him still with his hands in his hair, his eyes clenched shut like he is back there.

Back at the embassy.

I don’t even know if he heard all of that call.

I slide my hand out, gently squeezing his shoulder, and he jumps, his eyes wide as saucers as he stares at me like he’s shocked to see me. I let out a breath with a sigh. “Alpha… I know this is fucking hard, but did you hearanyof that conversation?”

He nods, his nostrils flaring, his face turning red like the anger is now sweeping through his veins. “It’s Major fucking Gates… my CO. How thehelldid I not know he is Swift’s father? Loki should have seen this shit in the background checks. He is so thorough. How did Swift keep this from us?”

I weakly shrug. “How did I trick you with my fake background? Everything you saw in my history was planted too. But I know a thing or two about the software and hacking systems they use here at The Nest. It’s top-of-the-line. I can show Loki if he is willing.”

Alpha subtly nods but then grabs my file from the desk. “We have to get back to the clubhouse. We don’t know if they caught Mav. He might be in trouble, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let them get anywhere near Poppy. We need to get those fucking cunts out of my clubhouse and deal with them for hiring an assassin to take me out.”

“Hopefully, they have refueled the helo. Let’s get back out there and get our asses home.”

Alpha quickly spins back to the filing cabinet, riffling through it. I furrow my brows as he pulls another one out. “I don’t want any traces of Poppy being here.”

Smiling, I nod. “Good thinking,” I reply before we grab the other files we need and take off for the helo. This time, I’m going to let Alpha fly because if there is one thing I know for sure, the man loves control. Right now, his clubhouse is under attack from a man he thought was his only remaining brother-in-arms from a time they both should be in solidarity. Instead, Gates is holding the whole thing against Alpha.

He’s made this personal, and I know one thing about Alpha—you don’t come after the people or the things he loves because that’s a surefire way to get yourself killed.

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

Alpha

My eyes glance over at Haven just as I am about to land the helo. She has been through a hell of a lot today, but the day is not over.

Traitors have infiltrated my club, and if I’m going to get them the fuck out, I need her focused and with me. After landing, I turn off the engine, and spin to face Haven.

“My daughter is in the clubhouse. I only just got her back, so we need to play this right. Swift and Gates have gotta pay, but however we do this, Poppy must be safe, no matter what. Ican’tlose my little girl again.”

Haven reaches out and takes my hand. “I have an idea. A way to get Swift outside and away from Poppy. But there might be some collateral damage.”

My brows draw together in question. “What do you mean, collateral damage?”

She pulls something small from her pocket.

“What the fuck is that?”

“It’s a small blast radius explosive device used sometimes when I’m on a mission. The Nest developed them to do the most damage in the smallest spaces, protecting anything around it. To kill targets, not civilians in the blast.”

“And you just had that shit sitting in your pocket the entire time?”

“You sound surprised.” She shrugs. “I always have one in my pocket just in case.”

Shaking my head in disbelief, I unbuckle my seat belt and move to jump out of my seat. “Actually, yeah, you’re right. I shouldn’t be. You’ve shown me plenty of times you’re the kind of woman who would carry a grenade with her, so I take back myshock and follow it with, fuck yeah! Whatever your plan is, I’m in.”

She unbuckles her belt and then slides out of the helo. “That’s the spirit.”
