Josh frowns. “I told you, I talked to my mom weeks ago, before we got here. Before I'd even met you.”

“You still had no right to interfere,” I snap.

Josh pauses, searching my face. “What’s this really about? Are we OK? Because I saved you some dessert,” he adds, his gaze turning suggestive. “It’s a fancy layered cream pastry thing, and it would taste damn good spread all over you…”

Desire sparks, despite this weird tension I’m feeling.

Torn, I don’t know what to say, but luckily, my phone buzz breaks my silence. “It’s from Lottie,” I report, checking the message. “She’s over with Reeve and Ivy, having some kind of super-nerdy Scrabble tournament.”

“So, we have some time?” Josh asks, slipping his arms around my waist. He dips a kiss to my ear, sending shivers down my spine. “Because ten minutes is all well and good, but an hour…? I’ve gotplans.”

I pause. Lottie and Reeve play to win. They probably wouldn’t notice if I spent half the night with Josh, getting naked and out of my mind again.

But then what?

The question echoes in my mind, making me pull back. “I should go join them,” I tell him. “She just arrived, and I haven’t seen her…”

“Of course,” Josh agrees immediately. “Have fun, I’ll see you in the morning. Play a triple word score for me,” he adds, leaning in to kiss me, slow and so steamy, I’m almost tempted to take it back. Stay, and lose myself in our wildfire connection for another night.

But then what?

Then what?

The question circles, louder, until I have to pull away. “Goodnight,’ I blurt, and hurry away from him, until the moonlit glitter of the ocean is out of sight.

We still have one day left in tropical paradise…

So why does it feel like the vacation is already over?

JOSH

The sooner thiswedding is over, the better.

I wake early after another night of steamy, explicit dreams that would have me reaching for Hazel – if she was in bed with me right now. Instead, she’s probably off dealing with some last-minute bridal disaster, and I’m left to take care of my raging hard on alone, with nothing but the memory of her lush curves under that shower spray, and her hot little whimpers, and her mouth?—

God, her mouth.

As I finally head up to the pool to work off this pent up sexual tension, I have to laugh at the irony. When I arrived on the island a few days ago, I was willing to do just about anything to sabotage this ceremony and save my uncle from a sham of a marriage. Now?

Now, I’m so crazy over Hazel, I can’t wait for them to just get down that aisle so we can be free from wedding-related distractions, and start talking about what’s next for the two of us. The future. Dating. Our relationship.

More.

I know she may want to take it slow, especially with me getting to know Lottie, but hell, I’ll rack up frequent flyer miles every weekend traveling cross-country, if that’s what it takes to show her that this thing between us can last.

I already know, this is just the beginning.

Because this woman? She just keeps on surprising me, blowing me away with her smarts and wild imagination, and, yeah, the best sexual connection I’ve had with anyone in my life before. Even getting stuck in that rainstorm halfway up a mountain was the most fun I’ve had in years - because I was stuck withher. And getting to spend time with her and Lottie at the butterfly sanctuary, I saw a whole new side of Hazel, too: the incredible mom she is, and the amazing job she’s done raising such a smart, inquisitive kid.

I want to know more. I want to knoweverything. She was the last thing I was expecting to find at this wedding, but now she’s under my skin, in all the right ways, and I can’t wait for what comes next.

“Someone had their Wheaties.”

I look up. My uncle Robert is out with his towel and swimming trunks, right on schedule. I smile. “I figured you’d give the pool a miss this morning,” I greet him, finishing my lap and hauling myself out of the water. “Shouldn’t you be off in a barber’s chair, getting ready for your big day?”

“I’m a creature of habit,” he says with a smile, reaching down to test the water.
