It’s always known, with him.

“What are your summer plans?” I blurt, before I can talk myself out of it again. “Because we’re going to be on the East Coast, for this movie, and I know I’ll be working, but I was thinking— maybe if you wanted, you could come too. Not just to visit,” I add quickly. “But, full-time. We’re renting a place there, and Lottie’s got another session at space camp, but she’ll be around too, and we’d love to have you. If it’s even possible, with your work,” I say, realizing I haven’t really thought this out. “If you can go remote, and even commute back to New York—not that you should be doing even more travel for me, sorry, I just?—"

“Whoa there.” Josh finally cuts me off, chuckling. “I have thoughts. Lots of thoughts. But this sounds like a conversation we should probably have in person.”

I exhale. “Of course, you’re right. Sorry, I just didn’t want to wait.”

“That’s OK, you don’t have to.”

My doorbell sounds in the distance. “Can you hang on?” I ask, getting up. “It’s probably another delivery. You didn’t send anything else, did you?” I ask, making my way down the hall. “Because those flowers and cake were gorgeous, but you really don’t have to go overboard like that with every tiny celebration.”

“Yes, I do,” Josh says, sounding amused. “Get used to it. And I did figure there was one more thing you needed…”

I open the door, and stop. Because Josh is standing on my front porch, a duffel bag at his feet and a smile on his face that just about melts me clean away. “I thought you had meetings,” I say dumbly, staring at him in giddy disbelief.

“I couldn’t wait to tell you something,” Josh says, still talking into his phone. His eyes find mine, quiet and certain. “I love you, Hazel Donavan.”

My heart pounds wildly in my chest, as I take another step closer to him.

Another step closer to the edge.

“I love you too,” I whisper, and the way his smile turns incandescent fills me up with joy.

“Call you right back,” he says, before hanging up, and reaching for me.

And just like that, I know, it’s time to make the leap.

HAZEL

“I’m craving ice cream.Mint chocolate chip.”

“We had ice cream last night.”

“Yeah, but I haven’t licked it off your bare chest…”

I smile, tangled up in Josh’s arms. Ever since he surprised me on the porch last night, we haven’t moved from this spot: Naked, in my bed.

Where he belongs.

“You know, I don’t think the folks downtown in Pasadena would have appreciated the show,” I tease, propping myself up on one elbow. “There are probably laws against it.”

“But you’d be the exception.” Josh grins at me, sprawled across my pillows with a satisfied smirk on his face. “You have spectacular breasts. In fact… I think I’m going to make it my mission in life to eat dessert off them, every night.”

I giggle. “That’s a big ambition. You think you’re up to the task?”

“I’m willing to rise to the challenge.” Josh leans up, slowly licking over the swell of my chest and teasing at my nipples, until they’re taut and aching. I shiver, melting to his touch. “After all, we’ll have plenty of time… once we’re living together.”

Living together.

The words send a wash of happiness through me; my twisted panic over the future now just a distant memory. Because it’s decided: Josh is moving to North Carolina with us for the summer, working remote during production on the movie. We’ll wake up every morning together, and spend our days in the same zip code, and fall asleep in each other’s arms like this, each night.

Hopefullyjustlike this.

Josh’s breath is hot on my bare skin, and I can already feel his cock, pressing hard against me as he closes his lips around one stiff bud and sucks. “We’ll be late,” I half-protest, breathless, as he slides his hand between my legs.

“But you’re already so wet for me, baby,” Josh’s voice turns ragged, low in my ear. His fingers circle me lightly, teasing, barely brushing my clit. I manage to huff a laugh.
