Chapter 10

Cass

Arin puts in the addressshe overheard Tenderfoot say into her GPS and the three of us climb into her car. It’s not very far away.

First we drive past the cabin he’s staying in, to get the lay of the land. Once we are around the corner Arin pulls over.

“There are only a couple of houses out here and it doesn’t look like anyone is home.” She starts giving directions.

I could be mad that she’s being bossy but she is more level headed than I am right now.

She continues, “I’m going to have a flat. Mika, you knock on the front door and ask for help changing the tire. Cass, I know that place has a back door. Taylor and I looked at it before we decided to build our house. You slip around the back. Once Mika has him outside, go in and check for Jake. Mika, take your time, I need let some air out.”

“How will I know when he’s coming back in?” I ask her.

“I’ll beep my horn three times, when he gets my tire changed.”

Getting out of the car, Mika and I step over to the sidewalk watching as Arin gets out and releases the air valve on her tire..

Mika takes my hand and gives it a squeeze before we part ways. She heads to the front door as I go around to the side.

I’m peeking around the corner when he answers the door.

I can’t hear them but they talk for a few minutes before he grabs his coat and follows her to the car.

Once they are out of sight, I continue around back and find the door exactly where Arin said it would be.

The cabin only has four rooms, a kitchen, dining room, bathroom and one bedroom so it doesn’t take me very long to go through it.

Back in the kitchen I’m trying to decide where else to look when I hear banging coming from under my feet.

What the heck?

Heading back into the living room to search for a basement door, I hear Arin’s horn.

*Beep*Beep*Beep*

Spinning around I quickly run out the back door and duck down under a window.

I’m still trying to catch my breath when a hand on my shoulder makes me jump.

“It’s only me.” Arin says. “Did you find anything?”

“Not inside but there was something banging around under the floor.”

“If I remember correctly there’s a crawlspace. The entrance is on the north side of the cabin.” She nods in the direction she’s talking about. “Let’s go see if we can find it.”
