“The food is on its way. Where’s your mom?”

“Her room.” They both say at the same time and point down the hall.

“Two ladies will be coming in a few minutes. Make sure you let them in. I’m sure they’ll have the best food you could possibly eat with them too.” I look at Sky and she grins, turning back to the door to watch for anyone pulling up.

Making my way down the hall, I find Andi’s door and open it slowly. I find her there on the bed with her hair spilling over the pillow and her bare legs peeking out from under the cover.

Hiding my groan at the beautiful sight, I walk quietly closer to the bed. She moves slightly in her sleep, mumbling too low for me to make out what she’s saying.

It must be a good dream because she grins as she moves slightly on the bed and I’m instantly jealous at the thought she is possibly dreaming about her own husband.

Reaching out, I shake her shoulder gently. “Andi. Hey sweetheart, I need you to wake up.”

Her eyes flutter open and that same grin she had a few minutes ago is back on her face as she looks back at me. Seeming to realize that she’s now awake, her grin fades as she looks around the room.

“Gabe? What are you doing here?” She asks, holding the blanket to her chest as she raises up slightly.

“The girls called me.” I answer, scanning her face for any signs of sickness. “Are you feeling okay?”

She stares back at me for a full minute before her face seems to change and tears fall from her beautiful eyes. I gather her close to me as her body shakes from the tears.

“It’s okay to still be grieving but you have to get out of this bed. It’s not good for you.” I tell her once she grows quiet again.

Shaking her head, she leans back to look into my eyes, “You don’t understand.”

“What do I not understand?”

“It doesn’t matter.” She pulls away and that’s when we both hear the girls in the kitchen giggling and other voices as well. “Who else is here?”

“Mina and Bella. They brought something for the girls to eat because in Skylar’s opinion, she was starving.” I grin.

“She’s always starving.” Andi says and I chuckle.

“That’s exactly what her sister said.”

“Who is Bella?” She looks back at me quickly as if she just remembered what I said.

“She’s my VP’s Ole Lady.”

“Ole Lady. That means wife right?” She asks, surprising me.

“Sometimes it does but it can also just mean girlfriend. Get dressed and meet us in the kitchen. I’m going to take you out for a bit so wear something for riding.” I get up, heading towards the door.

“I can’t leave the girls.” She starts to protest.

“If I’m hearing right, Mina and Bella brought their kids with them so I’m sure they’ll stay to watch them for a bit. They’re good people. You’ll see.”

“Alright. I trust you.” Her simple little statement fills me with pride as I go out the door and start to close it but her voice stops me once again.

“Do you have an Ole Lady?” She asks and I look back at her wondering what is really on her mind.

“No. I never met anyone I wanted to take that step with.” I say, not mentioning that no one ever came close to erasing my memories of her.

Closing the door fully, I walk back to the kitchen where all the laughter is coming from.

Walking in, I see all the kids at the table gorging themselves on homemade vegan pizza that Bella clearly made herself. I can’t blame them for how fast they’re eating it down because the shit is fucking amazing.

The first time she ever made it, we were having a family bar-b-que and she brought it for the kids to eat.
