I shot him a glare, mortified that he had revealed such a deeply personal detail to a woman who was probably in her seventies. My cheeks burned with embarrassment as Wanda's eyes widened, but then she surprised me with an excited smile.

"Really?" she asked, leaning in closer. "No surprise that Gunnar is into kink. One of my husbands used to like to be walked on a leash. He'd lick my boots clean."

"Which one? The police chief?" Colby asked.

Wanda nodded. "Sometimes, men in positions of power need an excuse to let go."

"Um, well… yeah. Gunnar's not really… like that." I started backing away.

Daisy waved me off. "Don't let his dom thing take over too much — you deserve to explore too!"

I needed out of this conversation. I glanced wildly at Colby. He must have understood my silent plea for help, because he stepped between me and the grandmas.

"Enough chit-chat, ladies," Colby announced, clapping his hands together. "Mira is my employee and we've got a business to run here, remember? She's got duties to take care of!" He moved to usher Wanda and Daisy towards the door, but Daisy bolted down an aisle of books, faster than a woman of her age should have been able to move.

"Hey!" Colby exclaimed, chasing after her. I watched, shocked, as Wanda stole Colby's phone and ran in another direction, and Colby did his best to corral them both. Their laughter echoed through the store, leaving me with a feeling of surreal disbelief. Was this really happening?

"Get back here, you two!" Colby called out, his voice lighthearted despite the absurdity of the situation. The elderly women continued to dodge him, their antics making me smile.

"You can't stop us from enjoying a few good books!" Wanda yelled, grabbing a random paperback as she sprinted down the mystery aisle.

"I don't even know why I'm chasing them!" Colby said, stopping to laugh, leaning over with his hands on his knees, panting.

"Because it's fun!" Wanda said from the end of an aisle. "You young people get so uptight. Let go, let life happen. Stop worrying about everything. Otherwise, you're going to get to my age and realize you wasted your entire life thinking about what might go wrong in the future, and none of it just enjoying yourself."

I froze, staring at her, wondering if she could see inside my head.

Daisy smiled, reaching out to pat my arm. "It's okay, dear. Whatever's weighing on you? That'll still be there in a year. Maybe this is your sign to let go, have a little sex. Get a little wild."

Wanda stepped forward and grabbed Colby's hand. "I agree! The chance to be in Hazy Cove, working in this wonderful store with this gorgeous man, that might not be."

Colby was bright red by the time she finished talking, and for a minute, I wondered if Wanda was trying to set me up with him.

"If you get through Gunnar's hard shell, you'll find he has a soft center. He's a sweetheart in the body of a gruff biker guy. Just like this one is a kinky bastard in the body of a golden retriever." She pointed at Colby.

"Hey!" Colby yelped. "What does that mean?"

"Only time will tell," Daisy said. "And with that, we'd better go. We have an appointment with a man about a garage."

Gunnar

Date night. I finallyinvited Mira to do something more official than wild sex. As I turned around, looking for my keys to lock up the shop, Wanda strolled in, a mischievous glint in her eyes. I glanced at my watch.

"Grandma, I gotta go."

"Just some quick gossip. Or what are the kids calling it today? Tea?"

"Do you think I fucking pay attention to that?" I grumped, staring at the clock. I was going to see Mira again, and it was the only goddamn thing I could think about.

My grandmother remained cheerful, unfazed by my crankiness. "Guess who I met today?" Before I could answer, she answered her own question. "Mira! Cute girl. I can see why you're falling so hard for her. She was at the bookstore with Colby."Falling so hard for her?"What the heck are you talking about?"

"It's obvious." Wanda tilted her head, then nodded. "You know, polyamory is more acceptable these days."

"There's no polyamory." I wondered if I needed to get my grandma checked for dementia or something, but there was no time for it now. Mira was waiting.

"Oh, thank goodness, Mira called you! I take full credit." Wanda beamed.

"No. I called her," I snapped, wondering what she was talking about.
