"She was waiting for you to call. I hope you're not playing one of those hard to get games." Wanda narrowed her eyes at me. "Taught you better than that, and we all know that where this girl is concerned, you're easy to get."

I blinked.Easy to get? What?"It's not a game. I'm worried about her. There are some things she doesn't know. About her father."

"What, now?" Wanda asked.

"Vin, the mechanic? He's her dad. And I got into it with him, and he left before she could talk to him. I feel like an ass, and I don't know how to tell her." My grandmother had lots to say on the topic of absentee parents, so I didn't mention that he was fleeing from financial responsibilities. We'd be here all day.

"Stop getting all caught up in your head and anxious. Talk to her," Wanda said, as if it was so simple. "She likes you."

I glanced at the clock, my chest tightening when I realized I might be late, might disappoint Mira. "I really have to go."

"I'll lock up, you run," Wanda said, laughing, "And whatever happened with that asshole, Vin? It's not your fault. You're a good man, Gunnar Malloy."

I gave her a quick hug before running outside, checking my watch again. If I hurried, I'd get there right about when she was expecting me. And sure enough, I pulled up to Colby's bookstore two minutes early, my hands gripping the wheel a little tighter than usual.

Through the windows of the bookstore, I could see Colby leaning against the counter, talking to Mira, and both of them laughing.

Wanda thought Mira liked me. It make me feel all warm and fuzzy. I was behaving like a teenager waiting for his girl for the big Homecoming dance. Nervous energy surged through me,making my knees bounce and my fingers tap on the steering wheel.

As I got out of the truck, Mira glanced out the window and spotted me, giving me a quick wave before she ducked behind a counter and gathered her things. She looked stunning in a black skirt that hugged her curves just right and a crisp white button-down shirt. As she pushed open the bright blue door of Tattered Pages, she waved at me. I walked to the other side of the truck and opened her door for her.

"Damn, babe," I purred. "You look good enough to eat."

She blushed as I helped her climb into the truck, enjoying even that delicious little touch. As I got back behind the wheel, her dark eyes met mine and even the eye contact made something flutter in my stomach.

"Are you ready for tonight?" I asked, leaning over to give her a quick kiss on the lips.

"Definitely," she replied, her voice filled with anticipation. "So, what do you have planned?"

"Dinner at my place. But first, I want to take you to this little spot that's perfect at sunset," I explained. "And I thought we might play another little game. A more daring one this time."

Mira squirmed in her seat, curiosity sparkling in her eyes. "More chicken?"

"We should call it something sexier than chicken," I teased.

"Sexier than chicken… Rooster? Turkey?" Mira tapped her chin as she listed off decidedly unsexy options.

I burst out laughing. "Okay, Chicken it is."

"Shit, I'm awkward," she said, grinning at me sheepishly.

"Nah, I'm so damn into everything you do. You make me laugh." I started the engine and pulled out into traffic, thinking about how different she was than the other women I'd been with. "Your mind is always working, isn't it?"

"I guess so?" Mira shot me a confused look.

"Like when you were on display the other night, you didn't just zone out, you noticed every detail, every little thing spiked your arousal, until you were losing your fucking mind with need. It was the sexiest thing I'd ever seen."

She whimpered a little, sinking back in her seat and closing her eyes. "I met your grandmother today, and she asked me what we did on our dates. That was fun."

"Oh shit, she didn't tell you about BDSM in the 70s did she? I suggest you avoid that topic if at all possible."

Mira shook her head. "She told me you were nervous. You don't seem nervous."

I laughed. "Mira, you make me so nervous. You're brilliant, funny, gorgeous, and your kinks... fuck. I've never felt this kind of obsession with a woman before. Or this kind of connection."

"I'm pretty sure I'm just a geek," she said, poking me.

"A bold, brave geek with a dirty fucking mind that turns me on to no end." I reached over and threaded my fingers through hers, squeezing her hand.
