His grin widened as he followed my gaze.

Again, he said nothing.

That photo could ruin you…

I edged closer, unnerved by the cool silence between us. It was like a dare, that stare.

I couldn’t help the way my eyes drifted from the knife to his phone. He didn’t move as I stepped toward him.

“You have to get rid of the picture,” I pleaded.

He raised an eyebrow at me, lip caught between his teeth as he watched me curiously.

I was so close to the knife.

This time, his gaze never left me, as if he knew exactly what I was doing. Instead of stopping me, he sank down to sit on the side of my bed.

I darted forward.

The second my grip closed around the handle of the weapon, his aura burst into the room, smothering the space. It shivered in the air, invisible energy that alphas had, a threat that threw my every instinct into a panic. My breath caught, my gaze darting to him as I clutched the knife.

His aura was massive.

Terrifying.

It would make him faster and stronger. Right now, he could kill me without a thought.

The knife… I swallowed.

My only hope.

I moved as fast as I could, whipping the blade in front of me and pressing it to his neck, heart in my throat, knowing this might be the last thing I ever did.

But he didn’t move.

Not even with me crouching over him, the deadly blade at his throat in a victory that felt strangely empty.

“Delete the photo,” I hissed.

“Can’t.” He flipped his phone with an incremental movement. I looked down to see that on the screen was a text conversation.

My chest tightened.

He’d sent the photo to a chat.

How many people were in it?

As I watched, a text popped up in reply.

Umbra: Is this just for us, or are we putting those lovely golden eyes on blast?

His pack.

That had to be the only place he sent it.

He watched me with glittering yellow eyes, the phone held loosely in his hand. “So, you’re here to trick your mates?”

How long had he been there? How much had he heard of me talking to myself?
