Golden eyes that were as beautiful as the rest of her.

A peace offering.

I was grinning. What had she asked? How was it going for her trying to be unsexy?Itwasn’t. Not even a little. She was made of unfiltered sunlight. I didn’t think it was possible for her not to be hot—and that was before I’d ever caught her scent.

Fuck.

My cock throbbed at the idea of her scent. Would it be earthy, or sweet, or sharp?

Ihadto know.

“I’m still going to squeeze you until you purr for me.”

She blinked, peering back at me from her suitcase with a frown. “That is the weirdest threat I’ve ever heard.”

“Thank you.” I stood and stepped toward her, wanting a closer look before I got ready for bed myself. Her gaze turned sharp at my footsteps. She stopped rooting and got to her feet as if I was about to jump her.

She was a frightened little bird. I didn’t blame her with Dusk involved, but she’d settle once they’d prodded each other’s boundaries a bit more. Dusk wasn’t upfront about stuff like that—not even to himself—so she’d have to figure him out. Mine were clear as day, though all she had to do was ask.

I couldn’t help my deep inhale as I neared. Sadly, she smelled like a fresh shower and nothing else, but I’d live.

Dusk had given her loads of scent blockers, and more this morning since they’d gone out to grab the schedules. I think Dusk had only taken her out so she didn’t go stir crazy, since she’d been curled up on the couch all morning, jumping at every small noise and shooting Dusk foul glares. But I knew what he’d caught her doing yesterday in his room, so I wasn’t buying it at all.

I knew for a fact Dusk also had a pill that would rid her of the scent blockers, but I think he wanted to keep it for the moment she accepted the nest. He was melodramatic like that.

Her gaze darted to the door, but she didn’t move.

She was brave.

“Ask,” I said.

She paused, suddenly more calculating, as she took me in. I liked her looking at me like that, like I was a puzzle she wanted to solve. “Are you going to… uh…?” She clasped her fingers, confidence deserting her. I waited. She’d get it back. “To make me do anything I don’t want to do?” she asked quickly, her voice hoarse.

“Just the cuddles.”

She wrinkled her nose.

Oh, come on.I scowled. She’d taken the coin toss. It wasn’tmyfault she hadn’t checked the other side of the coin before she made the bet. I wouldn’t have stopped her and then she’d be in her nest right now.

The cuddles. Were. Mine.

She was wearingournecklace around that dainty neck of hers.

Besides, this was nothing. If she was in Dusk’s room, he’d probably be claiming her tight throat again like the lunatic he was.

Oh, the universe was coming for him.

Shit.

I hadn’t really considered it until now, especially seeing her nerves. Me and Dusk wanted the same stuff, and Shatter was exactly the kind of thing the universe might take away for that…

But if it wasn’t for Dusk we wouldn’t have found her at all.

Fuck.

I’d cover it.

I’d paid his debts before.
