“You tell me which pack you’re sodesperatelykeeping secret. Or…” His thumb trailed down to my lips. “You give me first run at what will be theirs tomorrow.”

“W-what?” I didn’tunderstand.

He dragged me closer, head tilted as if truly enjoying the way the blade pressed against his neck. His free hand lifted to my chin, thumb brushing my mouth. “I want those pretty lips wrapped around my cock.”

I jolted back, a snarl on my face.

His eyes sparked with delight and his grip on my waist became vice-like. I felt his arousal beneath me, and I was caught between the urge to wriggle away, and keep the blade steady at his throat.

“What will it be, omega?”

My breathing hitched as I tried to untangle his request, mind splitting in a million directions, clawing at solutions that didn’t exist.

Icouldtell him which pack were my mates… but the amount of power that would give him… If he got to them before I did with that picture, what would happen?

I knew what it was like, catching the trace of your scent match for the first time. It had shifted my entire world. It had led me to this place, determined and bold. But I had been the only one who’d known at the time, with my scent hidden as it was. I needed to do that for them, like they had for me.

If they found out they were scent matched to a gold packbeforethey met me, though…

My chest heaved, eyes darting between his. He seemed curious, as if he truly didn’t know what I would do.

“Whatever deal I take, you’ll delete the photo,” I whispered.

He cocked an eyebrow. “I won’t send it to anyone else.”

“I’ll… I’ll only agree if you delete it.” I shoved the blade harder against his skin, enough to draw the slightest bead of blood.

His responding rumble of a growl sounded more pleased than scared. “I’m keeping the photo, Gem. You’re the sexiest thing I’ve seen in a long time.”

I stared at him, searching for the joke.

As far as omegas went, I was a mess. Alphas didn’t want me around. It was because of my past, the one I had such scant details of.

“Decision?” he asked. “Or do you want me to make it for you?”

I didn’t trust him. Not one bit.

But… the second option… It would be over the moment he left. My mates would never be involved.

They would never have to know.

I drew the knife away slowly.

Silence hung between us forever, as absolute as the trap he had me in. I still gripped the knife uselessly while he remained perfectly relaxed, waiting to see what I would do.

Anxiety sent my mind into disarray—scattered beads across a wooden floor.

I almost opened my mouth to ask again—because he couldn’t be serious—but I caught myself.

He was giving me an out, as foul as it was.

And he had no idea where I’d come from, what I’d done to get here. What I’d do to see it through.

I didn’t know what he expected, but had to ignore his low chuckle, my heart smashing against my rib cage, as I sank to my knees.
