“Shut up, man!” I shook my head and turned around. “It’s okay if you didn’t get her off. Just ask her for another chance,” he called out, just as I slammed the door to my bathroom. I glanced at myself in the mirror and frowned.

Sex had been great.

We’d both come. Almost together.

Unless…a little voice perked up, and my frown deepened.Unless she faked it.Maybe that’s why she hadn’t texted or called?

Fuck, no.

No, there was no way she faked it. Not all those times. Hell no. But if she had, how would I have known?

“Where are we going?”I asked Fabiola. She pretended she didn’t hear me. I knew this by the way she was staring out her huge SUV. Her body slightly stiff and almost like she was holding back a smile. “Fabi?” I called out.

“What?” she asked like we weren’t the only two in the huge car.

“Where are we going?” I hissed as I looked around.

My heart rate picked up speed. I knew this area like the back of my hand. I’d grown up here, and I had a bad, bad feeling we were heading right to Aiden’s family restaurant.

“Mom wants a pie from—” she started to say, but I was already shaking my head, my dark hair starting to dance at the sides of my face.

“Oh no! No. Why didn’t you tell me? You said you wanted to go to ULTA!” I accused. “I can not believe out of all of my sisters, you would lie to me!”

“Come on,” she whined and carefully pulled over to the parking lot across the street from the diner. “What happened?”

“What are you…” I stopped talking because I knew there was no way of tricking Fabiola.

Ruth, Sara, Aria, and Fernie? Maybe.

It wasn’t that they didn’t care, but they were always so busy with their lives that they overlooked certain things. But Fabiola was the quiet, observant one who had tied herself up with a Marine biker and was now also very adventurous.

“Talk to me,” Fabiola pressed. Her hand reached for mine and squeezed. I had no idea why her hand was always so dang soft and comforting. “Something happened on that trip,” she noted too wisely. “We all gave you space and time, but that ran out.”

“Ran out?” I frowned, and she smirked.

“You really think no one has noticed how sad you’ve been?” Her head tilted.

“I’m not sad,” I muttered the lie heavy on my tongue.

“We know you. I saw you at the airport with Aiden. Something happened.”

“I don’t know...” My lip wobbled, and I looked away.

The temperature had dropped enough for us to pull out our hoodies and beanies, but that was about it. No snow. Not that I had expected any kind of white winter wonderland. Not in Los Angeles.

“Gemma.” My sister’s soft voice melted my heart, and I glanced at her. “What happened?” I shook my head and then shrugged.

“I’m not really sure,” I confessed quietly.

“Hmm.” Her full attention was on me. “Why do I have a feeling that’s not entirely true?” She was too observant for her own good. I loved my sister, but I liked it better when she poked and prodded to get the truth out of the others, more than when she put her attention on me.

Yet… I needed to talk to someone.

I’d been holding it all in for too long.
