“Yes.” I nodded. “Today. You ready to become Daniela Porter?”

“For a year?”For forever.I had to swallow the correction I wanted to make. “Sure, why not?” She shrugged with a smile, her lips swollen from my kiss. Her hair was up in a messy bun that was slowly starting to fall, and she wasn’t wearing a bit of makeup.

And fuck me, she’d never been more beautiful.

CHAPTER 4

DANI

After doinga video chat with my girls I picked up my phone and called Luna. The phone rang once and she picked up just like I knew she would. I loved all the girls but Luna was the easiest for me to talk to.

“I have so many questions!” She blurted out with excitement and my lips twitched.

“I know.”

“First off… how? How didn’t you know Jax was well… Jax!?” She asked a little loud and I giggled.

“I don’t know. I mean, he always looked a little familiar to me, you know? And there was something about his voice but Luna, I honestly never put one and one together.” Never in a million years!

“And now you’re… you’re marrying him? Are you sure? I mean, you didn’t slip and fall and hit your head and this is all due to a concussion? Are you concussed Dan?” I laughed at her craziness.

“I’m not concussed.” I promised. Okay, this has to stay between us.

“Cross my heart!” she promised, and I could almost imagine her crossing her chest with her finger.

I breathed in and told her everything that had happened in the last twenty-four hours. About Jax being outside drinking, asking me to marry him. THE KISS! Then, because I was on a roll, I told her a little more. More about the business I wanted to start and the way every bill and debt felt like an overwhelming growing snowball that was about to avalanche that would take me out.

“Dani, why didn’t you tell me any of this?” She asked softly, without judgement in her voice.

“I don’t know,” I blinked away unshed tears. “You know how important finishing school was to me, how much I didn’t want to bug my parents about money and taking a loan out well… it made sense at the time. But I also didn’t expect the interest rates to spike up the way they did and how hard starting my own thing would be.”

“Two, three jobs honey? There is no way that’s good for you.”

“I know.” I whispered.

“No wonder you’re hard to get a hold of! You’re always working.” She noted and I wiped away an errant tear. “Here I thought you were living it up like a real-life Vegas party girl!” she teased gently and I giggled.

“I wish.” I sniffled.

“Look honey, I am no one to judge or tell you not to do something, but I do need you to do one thing for me.” she said and I swallowed hard.

“What is it?” I asked cautiously.

“I need you to be careful. You have a big heart and I know you’ve been crushing on Jax your neighbor since you moved in—" I was about to argue with her but she was right. I had been crushing on Jax. “Now he’s not only that man, but also the one you literally had hung up on a poster in your bedroom growing up.” she pointed out. “This tour, from the sounds of it from Shelby, we’re all going to be in close quarters with one another. And if he wants you to help him in front of the press, that means a lot of time with him.”

“I know.”

“That can get murky. I just don’t want to see you get hurt.”

"I know.” I repeated. “I’ll be careful.” I promised.

But then again, weren’t promises made to be broken?

CHAPTER 5

DANI

Dressedin a short white dress with a bouquet of fresh pink roses in my hand, I smiled up at the man I had just vowed to love through any kind of storm.
