“Great,” one of the guys muttered, and when I looked at Jax, his jaw clenched. But he didn’t say anything. He also didn’t put me down.

He carried me to the back, to the small, enclosed bunk that was ours, and he shut the curtain door behind us, gently setting me on the bed. Silence filled the space between us as I watched him try and get a hold of his anger.

“I’m sorry,” I breathed out as guilt started to eat at me. “I didn’t think. I shouldn’t have?—”

“Stop.” He lifted a hand, tipped his head up, and took a visible deep breath before exhaling slowly. His eyes opened, and he looked at me. “That wasn’t your fault. That was on me. I should have protected you.”

“Jax—"

“You’re mine.,” he quietly growled.

“For the tour?” I hated that what I’d meant to be a statement sounded like a question, but I couldn’t take it back.

Jax didn’t confirm or deny it. He simply moved into the bed with me, rolled me on top of him, and wrapped his arms around me. “Are you okay? Did they touch you?”

“No, Jax.” I watched as he tried to keep his cool, but I could feel his anger still simmering beneath the surface. Jax didn’t hide how he felt. He was a big guy, especially compared to me, but I never felt scared of him. My hands held his face, and I stroked his mostly clean-shaven jaw. It was crazy how his beard had made it impossible for me to recognize who he was.

I still couldn’t believe I had been living right next to him and never noticed he was the bad boy of my teenage dreams. Heck, I’d even had a poster of him in my childhood room. Something my girls loved to tease me about. But I wouldn’t trade it foranything in the world. It had given me the chance to meet Jax for the man he was instead of having hearts in my eyes for the bad boy he used to be.

“Honey, I’m fine. They just started taking pictures and…”

“Saying shit, right?” His jaw clenched so tightly I was afraid he was going to break it.

“Right,” I whispered into his neck, letting his heat wrap around me. “I’m okay, though. I promise.”

“Good.” He pulled back. “But you mind me holding you like this until I am?” The vulnerability in his voice made me melt.

Lines were most definitely blurring.

Being on the road and playing his loving wife at every turn from the moment we stepped out of the buses until we returned was a lot easier than I could have ever imagined. From kissing to touching and gazing up at him adoringly.

I was worried that I was no longer playing pretend. No, there were no ifs or buts about it. I wasn’t. I had gone and fallen in love with my husband.

Too bad the whole thing was less than convenient!

CHAPTER 6

JAX

“Thanks, man!”I waved at one of the roadies.

Rehearsals had gone great. I stretched my neck when I noticed Crue standing off to the side. Usually, I ignored him.

Walked by him like he didn’t exist.

It wasn’t that I hated the guy; he was like a brother to me. But I’d been an ass in the past, and he had always known how to push my buttons. And I was holding on to regret like a damn grudge. Crue looked over my shoulder as if something had caught his attention. I turned to see what he was looking at, and just like that, the tightness in my shoulders loosened up.

The girls were walking around.

Laughing and smiling. Pointing at different things of the venue. My girl’s eyes found mine, and despite the distance, I knew the exact shade of green like the back of my hand.

My girl. She wasn’t mine. Well, for all legal purposes, she was, but it wasn’t like I’d kissed her again since we tied the knot. There had been soft touches and kisses on her cheek I’d allowed myself.

But that was it.

Shit, it was bad enough we shared a bed every night. I felt like a goddamn Smurf from the waist down with how fucking hard Iwas anytime she was around. I had a serious case of blue balls I had to be man enough to ignore.

And my perfect girl was always around. But I didn’t mind. I loved being around her. I was fucking head over ass in love with her. I shook the thoughts away and felt Crue step closer.
