Every night was heaven and hell all wrapped up in one when we shared a bed.

No matter how we had started the evening with each of us at opposite ends of the mattress, we always woke up tangled up with one another. Almost like our bodies knew what our hearts weren’t ready to admit.

His hands on my body.

His scent on my skin.

All of it was the world’s biggest tease. Especially after knowing how he was capable of kissing.

After the thing at the gas station, something changed between us.

He’d been protective of me since we started the tour, but it got notched up a couple of levels higher. He seemed to always be around, within reach, and if he couldn’t be there, he made sure security was.

After that night, we stopped pretending to keep our space at the end of every night. We’d go to bed cuddling and wake up in the same position. It was beautiful, amazing even.

But it made me needy.

I wanted more.

His mouth. His touch. Everything.

“Dani.” My name in that deep tone made sweat start to form at the back of my neck, and it had nothing to do with the Nevadaheat. “You keep looking at me like that, and I won’t be able to stop myself.”

“There’s no press here,” I whispered for some reason and lost his eyes when I looked around and quietly asked, “Is there?” A slight prickle of fear flowed through me at the thought, but it disappeared instantly with the look he gave me. Jax’ dark brows bunched as he shook his head.

“Hell no. It’s just us.”

“Just us,” I repeated, and he nodded.

“You and me, baby.” I swayed closer. The sweet term of endearment was growing on me. I liked being his baby.

“So… you want to kiss me… just because?”

“Is that wrong?” He swallowed, and I shook my head.

“No. I want you to kiss me, too, Jax,” I admitted. The deep guttural sound he made caused my skin to break out into goose bumps. His hand tipped my chin back. I loved how he handled me. I was putty in his hands, waiting to do anything he asked.

My heart had been fluttering in my chest like a hummingbird, but it stopped mid-flutter when his head started to drop closer, so close I could feel his breath skim my mouth. But before they touched, his phone rang, and I jumped like a scaredy cat.

“Shit,” he cursed.

“You should get that.” I sounded out of breath, and when I opened my eyes, his intense gaze was dark, glazed, full of desire. For me?

“Dani—"

“I’ll get us unpacked,” I nervously said, unable to meet his gaze for some reason.

Anticipation and sexual tension were a bitch.

One I wasn’t used to and wasn’t sure how to handle. “Maybe make us something for lunch and—" I didn’t say another wordwhen he growled, and everything happened so quickly, I wasn’t sure which way was up.

“Fuck it.” His words had hardly processed when his hand pulled me back to where I had just been, pressed right against him. Jax’ lips found mine, and when they did, I knew life would never be the same.

Right or wrong, the lines were blurred completely. Who the hell was I kidding? They had been that way since the beginning.

His mouth found mine, and despite the urgency and need, the kiss was tender. Slow. And I needed more. So much more my toes curled in my shoes, and my fingers dug into the buttery soft material of his shirt.

I didn’t want the kiss to end, ever. Thankfully for me, from the passion that seemed to radiate from him, Jax felt the same way.
