“I like this,” she whispered into the crook of my neck. I felt my heart soften. My lips tugged upward. I didn’t smile a whole lot, but I knew I did when I was around her.

“Me, too,” I admitted. I loved it, actually. I wanted to tell her that, share I had fallen in love with her, but I didn’t want to move too fast and scare her away. She’s your wife!a voice inside my head reminded me, but even so, I kept my feelings to myself.

“You ready for your surprise? Those green eyes darkened with mischief and sparkled with desire.

“Round two already?” Her hand started to skate its way down my chest. Goddamn, I loved the way she thought. Round two sounded fucking great. I wanted that, but I wanted her more.

Forever.

The long game.

Something came over me. I wanted more than a moment with her. I wanted forever. I swallowed at the thought, waiting for the anxiety to set in, but it never hit.

Forever.

She was already my wife. Why not?I loved her. I had been a dick in the past, but I could become the kind of man who deserved the honor of standing by her side. I forced myself to cover her hand, and she looked up at me with curiosity.

“I want that. Fuck, I promise I do, baby. But first, your surprise,” I managed to say even though the blood in my body was starting to fill my dick.

“Fine.” She playfully rolled her eyes. “If you insist.”

“Thank you.” I kissed her, and we rolled out of bed.

Watching her cover her perfect body sucked. The only thing that made it easier was the fact she wore the shirt I’d just had on. There was something seriously sexy and intimate about seeing her in my clothes. Especially after what we’d just done.

I pulled up my jeans and left the top button undone. “Socks?” I offered, but she shook her head.

I held her hand as I led us toward the open living space that looked into the kitchen. When she stopped mid-step and gasped, I knew she’d seen it. “Jax.” My lips twitched at the surprise on her face. “How did you…” Her voice drifted off to nothing, and she let go of my hand.

She hurried toward the kitchen, to the things I’d set up on the counter.

I stuffed my hands into my front pockets as I watched her. When she looked at me with the brightest smile on her beautiful face, the nerves I started to feel faded, and I relaxed. I’d been worried for nothing.

But I guess that was going to happen when you fell in love and all you wanted to do was make that other person as happy as possible.

CHAPTER 9

DANI

I giggled.I couldn’t stop the sound as it bubbled up and out of me. I covered my mouth with my hands as I turned back to look at the counter.

Everything and anything you would need to bake was there. A new KitchenAid mixer, bright beautiful mixing bowls, spatulas, and bakeware. Not only was there equipment but what looked like two bags of ingredients brimming to the top.

“How… how did you do this?” I asked with awe as my hands went to touch the beautiful teal mixer. It wasn’t a cheap one either. It was big and top-of-the-line. I glanced at him just as he shrugged. “Jax?”

“I know how much you love to bake, and being on the road… I thought you might have missed it.”

“I did.”

“I know,” he admitted, and I could have sworn he blushed. “I heard you tell one of the girls you were tempted to pick up an Easy-Bake Oven, you missed it so much.” I laughed because I’d been joking around with Chastity about it.

“I was only kidding,” I licked my lips, loving the way I could still taste him.

“Either way, look… there’s no pressure. I don’t want you to feel obligated to bake anything. I just wanted you to be able to if you wanted—" I didn’t hear another word.

Not when I ran right to him and jumped into his arms. Jax didn’t blink. He picked me up and walked us toward the kitchen counter. “This is the best surprise ever,” I gushed.

“You like it? Seriously?” he asked just as he sat me down on the counter. My legs opened to make sure he fit between them. He didn’t miss a beat, settling between them. His big, talented hands held my face, and all I could do was smile up at him.
