“I love it.”I love you.The words were on the tip of my tongue, but I couldn’t seem to spit them out.

I’d never told anyone I wasn’t related to that I loved them.

Not in a romantic relationship situation, yet there I was. Ready to hand him my heart if he asked for it. I wasn’t sure if this thing between us was just an added bonus from our agreement, a fling, or more.

God, I want it to be more.So much more.

All we’d done was fool around, but I knew he’d ruined me for anyone else. He leaned in closer, and his scent wrapped itself around me as his lips touched mine softly.

“Good surprise?” he whispered. My lips pulled up.

“The best,” I answered just as quietly even though it was just the two of us in the house.

He must have liked that because that time when he kissed me, it wasn’t short. It was long and wet and so damn beautiful, my legs started to wrap their way around him. I whined when he pulled away.

“What do you want to make first?” he asked with a smile. Excitement prickled through me.

I hopped off the counter and started taking everything out of the two bags. Looking at everything he’d bought. I was still inshock over what he’d done, had no idea how he had pulled it off. But that was part of the beauty of his surprise.

I had everything and anything I would need to bake whatever my heart desired.

Then a thought struck me. He knew me that well.

He really knows me.

Maybe in the time I’d been crushing on my neighbor, my grumpy mechanic ex-boy band member hadn’t been as disinterested in me as I first thought?

“What do you miss eating?” I asked, not surprised with the fact he’d already started to shake his head.

“This isn’t about me. This is for you.”

“Please?”

“Everything you made was amazing.”

“Okay, how about we make something easy, then?”

“We?” He brushed the hair off my face, and I nodded.

“We. Together. You didn’t think you were just going to sit there and look pretty while I baked?”

“I mean…” His lips twitched as his shoulders rose and fell. We both laughed and leaned into one another like we couldn’t bear not touching each other.

“How about some cookies?” I suggested. I stroked his bare chest. He was so strong and warm. My fingers moved to the tattoo on his arm.

“I wouldn’t mind some of your chocolate chip cookies.”

“Good.” I winked and got to work.

I grabbed everything we would need, and Jax helped organize the rest into the cabinets in the kitchen pantry. Working side by side, I found that Jax was pretty good in the kitchen. He helped measure and pour things, ordering us lunch while I tossed the chocolate chips into the batter and set the cookie dough into the massive fridge. We moved and hadlunch by the pool, leaning into one another and talking about everything and nothing all at the same time.

It was perfect.

When we were done, I popped the cookies into the oven, and we found ourselves making out while they baked, only taking a break between batches.

And I honestly didn’t know what was sweeter—the cookies or Jax’ kisses.
