“You know we have people who could do that for us?” Crue asked. I felt his gaze bounce between Jax and me, almost like he was trying to figure us out.

“We could, but I wanna get some fresh air with my wife. That okay with you?”

“Sure.” His lips twitched, and my eyes moved to Jax. The confident way he’d said that. The depth in his voice.

Maybe I was being silly overthinking things? Maybe I needed to stop overthinking, worrying he was going to break my heart?

“Don’t be late for soundcheck,” Mason reminded him. Jax playfully flipped him the bird before rushing us out of the stadium and toward the car he’d driven us in this morning when everyone else took the buses.

“I still can’t believe this is yours.” I looked at the beautifully restored muscle car. I had no idea what kind it was or how old itwas because I didn’t know cars, but I did know it was a sexy piece of machinery.

“You know that means it’s yours, too, right?”

“No,” I laughed. “No, this is yours.”

“Babe, you’re my wife. What’s mine is yours. Wanna drive her?”

“Nope.” I laughed. “Not even a little bit.”

“You sure?” Who was this man? Weren’t men seriously overprotective of their toys?

“You would really let me drive your pretty car?”

“It’s not pretty.” He frowned. “It’s powerful. Badass.” I laughed at his correction and felt myself melt into his touch while we stood by the passenger side door. “But I would let you drive it. Anything that’s mine is yours.” I didn’t know what to say so all I did was stand on the tips of my toes and kiss him.

“I’m happy being your passenger princess,” I whispered when I pulled away. He growled sexily.

“You can’t say shit like that when I can’t show you how much I appreciate you wanting to be that for me.”

“Your passenger princess?” I laughed. “That just means I let you drive me around.”

“Yeah. I know what being a passenger princess means, I’m not that old,” he complained, and I giggled. I gasped when he pulled me even closer. “I like when you let me take care of you. I like you counting on me for anything and everything.”

“Jax.” I swallowed and licked my lips.Talk to him. Tell him your concerns. Tell him you love him, that voice in my head begged, but before I could say something, he spoke.

“Coffee and food,” he suggested, and I found myself nodding. Putting things off for a little bit longer because I liked being around him. What if I told him how I felt, and he pushed me away? Or worse, told me he didn’t feel that same? “Maybe take a nap on the way to the coffee shop.”

“Jax.”

“Let me take care of you, please?” The vulnerability in his gaze caused me to relax into his arms, leaning closer to his hard warm body. How could anyone say no to that?

“Okay,” I whispered. He leaned in and kissed me before pulling back. He bent and opened the door for me, and I easily slipped into the car. I watched as he rounded the car, and when he got in, the two of us rolled down the windows.

It wasn’t lost on me how easily I was letting go. Letting him take care of me after being on my own. Not that my family wouldn’t have my back if I needed them, but being the oldest of four, I’d always been stubbornly independent.

I watched him start and reverse the car, peeling out, showing off the muscle car’s horsepower, and I relaxed. Another surprise. I was usually the worst passenger, but with Jax, I knew I was safe. I stared at him as he drove. His masculine profile made my heart skip a beat. I was so in love with Jax Porter it wasn’t even funny. Head over heels, drunk in love.

He glanced over at me and winked. His hand found its way to mine, and he held it while we cruised down the Las Vegas Strip without a care in the world. We didn’t even mind the paparazzi behind us or at his driver’s side, snapping pictures.

I’d let myself fall for the bad boy who would probably freak out if he knew how truly, deeply, madly in love I’d fallen for him.

CHAPTER 12

JAX

I stretchedand waved Xander good night after making sure the house was locked up.

It was past two in the morning, but fuck, the show had gone great. Smoothly. Seamlessly. None of us had tripped over our feet or the lyrics. And fuck me, I felt alive in a way I had never felt sober.
