“Okay, big guy,” I sighed, brushing the too long strands out of his face and watched as he shut his eyes.

I wasn’t sure if it was due to the beers making him sleepy or him enjoying my touch. Either way, I wasn’t going to ask.

“You rest, and if you think getting married for the…”

“Paparazzi and press shit.”

“Right,” I whispered slowly because he sounded like whatever trip he was on must have been a good one. “If you think it’s a good idea in the morning, I’ll marry you.”

“Okay, good.” His face dipped closer, and his nose brushed mine. Not in a way that hurt me, but in a sweet way. A tender touch that made me feel like there was no one around us.

Like we were the only two people who existed.

And in a way, since we were alone in my townhouse, we were.

“I like the idea of marrying you,” he said out loud, and I pulled away.

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah.” His smile made me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. “That way, I can keep you with me.” He sighed and popped one of his dark eyes open.

“Coffee,” he muttered, and I nodded before standing up. “Dani,” he called. I turned to look at him sitting on my couch. “I promise I’ll be a good husband.” My lips twitched.

“Okay, Jax.” I might have rolled my eyes but had a smile on my face.

“I really will be.” He yawned and shifted on the couch. “The best. Take care of you always, Dani. Keep you safe. You’ll see. You’re mine, like I’m yours.” Oh boy, he really was drunk!

By the time I got to my kitchen and turned to look at him, Jax was snoring softly on my couch.

“I bet you would be an amazing hubby,” I whispered, knowing very well he’d never hear me.

I pulled my dark hair up in a tight bun and got to work.

Only I could finally have the man of my dreams under my roof and have to work.

Just my luck!

CHAPTER 3

JAX

My eyes opened wide, and I paused at the sight of what felt like pops of Technicolor all over the place.

I wasn’t home.

That much was obvious.

I had fallen asleep on a very pink couch. Just like that, the night before came back to me.

Soul Obsession. Recording time. Needing to go on tour.

Fuck! I’d proposed to Dani. I’d asked her to marry me without explaining who I was. Jesus, she must have thought I’d lost my mind! And I couldn’t blame her if she did.

My fingers ran through my beard as I stretched my stiff neck and waited for regret to pump through my veins, but nothing happened. If anything, I was almost calm about it.

Happy.

I scanned her living room, not completely surprised by the pops of color that stood out against the fresh white walls that matched mine. I sat up straighter when she caught my eye.
