Like a dream come true, there she was.

Dani wearing nothing but a tank, straps down her shoulder and tiny little shorts in some kind of cartoon print was asleepon the decorative chair next to the couch. A throw blanket at her feet, like it had slipped down in the middle of the night.

She’d slept there all night, and it was my damn fault.

“Fuck,” I whispered.

Like usually, my stupid mouth had got ahead of me. The thought of losing Dani and not having her by my side the next couple of months had felt overwhelming. My stupid plan of making her life easier had not started off on the right foot, but I’d change that.

I promised her I’d be the best husband ever. I’d help her open her bakery. And I’d be damned if I didn’t.

My phone buzzed in my pocket, but I ignored it. I didn’t have to look at it to know who it was. Between the band getting back together and hitting the studio, the group chat seemed to never stop.

I’d catch up later.

Dani would always take priority. No matter what.

I stood and stretched, trying to stifle back the groan of my muscles protesting after sleeping on the world’s pinkest couch. I didn’t want to wake her up. I kneeled down, picked up her blanket, and settled it over her lap.

It killed me to cover her up, but I didn’t like the idea of her being chilly.

She must have felt it because her eyes opened slowly, and everything inside of me kicked up. I should have woken up hungover, paying for the beers I’d indulged in. But I didn’t. If anything, it was the opposite.

I felt rejuvenated.

Alive.

But then again, being around Dani did that.

Her green eyes softened, and she smiled. I felt that smile in my chest as it started to warm up against my ribs. My girl. Iwanted to see her open her eyes every new day. I was a selfish bastard, but that didn’t make it any less true.

“Morning,” she whispered, her voice sleepy.

“Morning, Dani.” I swallowed, ignoring the way my Adam’s apple bobbed and my dick started to harden.

“How are you feeling?” she asked, her hand extended. I had to fight my body to stay where it was as she cupped my face and her thumb stroked my beard. But fuck me, the sensation felt too damn good, so I leaned into her touch. The movement startled her, and she was suddenly more awake, dropping her hand.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have….”

“You should have.” I carefully took her hand and placed it back on my face. I was hers. She could touch me any way she liked. “I like it when you touch me.”

“Since when?” She blurted, and I chuckled, enjoying the pretty pink tinge covering her cheeks that seemed to move up to the tips of her ears.

I wanted to kiss her.

“I think we need to talk.” I took her hand off my face and held it with both of mine. “I like you, Dani,” I laid out honestly.

“I like you, too. You’re pretty much the only friend I have. In real life, I mean. I have my fan girls group but?—"

“Fan girls group?”

“Nothing.” She giggled and shook her head. When she opened her mouth again, I cut in. I had to.

“I need to tell you something,” I blurted out. I needed her to know who I was. I’d been hiding in plain sight for so long, the thought of her knowing who I really was twisted my gut.

“Okay,” she said slowly. “That doesn’t sound too good.”

“It’s… well… it is what it is but…” I cleared my throat, and my eyes dipped to her hand in mine. Her tanned skin contrasted against my pale one. God, it was so soft, so much softer than I had ever imagined it being.
