“You wouldn’t answer your phone,” he says softly.

“Yeah, well, my whereabouts are none of your concern.”

“Your whereabouts are myonlyconcern.”

I step back, creating some distance between us. “Well, I’m fine, so you can leave now.”

“I doubt I’m going to get another Uber all the way out here at this hour. It took me twenty minutes just to find one, and my place is downtown.”

I open my eyes wide in surprise. “Well I can’t drive you home!”

He exhales all chill and shit. “Guess I’m staying here then.”

My eyes fall down to the small love seat couch that would barely hold half his body. “I don’t even have anywhere for you to sleep.”

He also looks at the small couch, and then both our heads turn toward my open bedroom door to my bed. I whip my head back to him. “No fucking way!”

“Oh, c’mon, Addison. Stop being so dramatic.” He waltzes over to my bedroom and falls back onto my bed with a relaxed sigh. “Oh, yeah. This’ll work fine.”

“You’re forgetting the part where I never invited you to stay over,” I say, folding my arms over my chest at the door.

He sits up in the bed and gives me those stupid fucking adorable puppy eyes until I can’t take it anymore. “Oh, for fuck’s sake! Fine!” I walk out to my hallway closet and grab a towel before going back in my room and chucking it at his face. “Take a shower first. I don’t need your drunk, sweaty self getting my bed all nasty.”

He smirks, already unbuttoning his navy blue dress shirt that is clinging so fucking nicely to his chest. “I can think of a few better ways to make this bed nasty.”

I glare until he gets scared enough to get up and head toward the bathroom. “Okay! Easy! I’ll behave. Not trying to get murdered in my sleep.”

I’m moments away from falling asleep when he walks back in the room in nothing but the towel. He starts heading to his side of the bed like he’s going to get in like that. I shoot up to a sitting position. “Woah there! Where the fuck are your clothes?”

“I’m washing them. I need something clean to wear when Mack picks us up tomorrow.” He plops down on the bed next to me like it’s all no big deal.

“Like fuck I’m letting Mack pick you up here. He is not finding out about this.”

“Ah, so this is going to be our dirty little secret then?”

I hate his stupid, annoyingly cute drunk grin. “No! Just our secret. There is nothing dirty about it.”

He raises his hands and places them behind his head. “You know saying it doesn’t make it true. We both know you’re a naughty girl, princess.”

I laugh, rolling my eyes and reaching over to turn the lights off. “Goodnight, Declan.”

???

“Move over!”

Pinch.

“Ow!” I yell at Declan as he shoves me over into the middle seat. “Why don’t you take the middle? Your ass is smaller than mine anyway!”

“You really need to stop staring at my ass, princess.”

He continues to poke and pinch and bother me even after Mack plops down in the seat next to me. “Oh man, saving on gas was a good idea, Addison, but I don’t know. This is a pretty small space to be confined in with all these fuckers.”

His cousin’s wife, Holly, turns and glares at Mack. He holds up his hands in defense. “Holly excluded, of course!” He leans closer to me to whisper, but talks loud enough for everyone to hear. “She seems pretty dangerous though.”

We all laugh, but my body freezes when Mack’s hand falls down to my knee. His actual touch isn’t what unsettles me. I can feel Declan’s eyes on me, specifically on my knee. I look his way without turning my head. His eyes catch mine briefly, and he doesn’t look happy.

He has no right to be upset though. We never even talked about any of this. It’s all been jokes. He’s letting me do whatever I want, but he doesn’t hide when he doesn’t like what I’m doing. It’s driving me insane, which is super annoying because that’s what I asked for. That’s what I want.
