“Don’t you think she deserves to be with someone who thinks that way about her?”

“Of course, it’s just…” I trail off, trying to figure out what I’m even doing. The whole point of this call was to put Thea out of my mind, and here I am being convinced of doing the exact opposite.

“Why don’t you allow me to make you forget about her for a little while? I can make you feel good, Mr. Smith. Just say the word,” she says, like she knows I want to change the subject.

Fuck that though. If I can’t even control myself for this stranger, how am I supposed to control myself with what really matters?

“Tell me something about yourself,” I say, changing the subject to safer territory.

“I like being put on my back.”

I choke on air, sending me into a minor coughing fit. “Molly…”

“Was there something else you had in mind?” she asks, teasing me successfully.

“Yeah… uhm… any big plans?”

“I have a date this weekend,” she says.

“A date? Are you trying to make me jealous?”

“Is it working?”

“Yes,” I say. “So are you not going to be available for me?”

“Depends,” she says, pausing for a moment. “I can be on call for a quickie.”

“Is that so?” I laugh. “You’re going to walk away from your date to phone fuck me?”

“I’d do anything for you, Mr. Smith.”

I squeeze my mouth shut to muffle my groan. “Where’s he taking you?”

“What?”

“Your date. What are you doing?”

“Oh, uhm…”

“What? Did he ask you to Netflix and chill or something?” I ask all cocky like I’m somehow a better option than the real man she’s going out with.

“Uh… yeah, no. We’re going to see the Riverbank serial killer’s house.”

I blink a few times like that’s going to make that sentence make more sense. “What?” I ask with a confused laugh.

“Don’t judge,” she giggles. “It was my idea.”

“Is this a thing that people do?” I ask, completely judging her.

She doesn’t care. Her confidence never waivers. “Yes,” she giggles. “It’s an official thing. You too can purchase a ten dollar ticket and see the house where the Riverbank killer went home to after murdering and hiding all those bodies.”

“How is that even legal?”

“It’s not a crime scene anymore,” she teases. “The house went on the market a couple years ago, and the person who purchased it is giving tours now.”

“And you just thought that sounds like a great date idea? Definitely original. I’ll give you that.”

“I’m most excited to check out the neighbors. There’s a good chunk of them that still live there. I always find it weird when they say he seemed like such a good guy. Like really Debra? Did he really?”
