His tongue runs along his lower lip. “You’re the furthest thing from innocent.”

“Oh? Feel free to tell him that. I’d love to be there when you do.”

He steps forward, invading my space. “I love it when you squirm.”

“Don’t make a sound,” I grit out, slamming the door in his face.

Trevor twists the door handle that I didn’t re-lock after I let Mack in. His face is a little surprised when it opens right upto me standing there in the living room. “Thea, why is your door unlocked?”

That’s literally the last thing on my mind right now, so it takes me a second to come up with an excuse. “Uhm… I just got the mail. Was about to lock up.”

“It’s bad enough you had to move out on your own. The least you could do is lock your door. Give your poor brother a chance to relax.”

I roll my eyes, walking into my kitchen so we’re further away from my bedroom. “You don’t need to worry about me.”

“It doesn’t matter how many times you say it, I’m still going to.”

I smile because I can’t help it. As much as he can get on my nerves, I love my brother to death. We were all each other had for a long time.

“What are you doing here?” I ask.

He leans his arms on the counter across from me. “Can’t a brother stop by to see his sister?”

“No. Absolutely not. Besides, I already saw you this morning.”

He laughs, standing back up straight. “Wow. Thanks.”

“So?” I ask.

“Uhm…yeah. I was on my way over to Brooke’s place,” he says, lowering his voice when he says her name.

“Oh my God, Trevor,” I laugh.

“I know. I know,” he says, shrugging off the fact we all know she’s using him as her little boy toy until someone else comes along. “The thing is. I think she left her hoodie at my place, but I wanted to make sure it wasn’t yours before I bring it over. She gets kind of jealous.”

My mouth drops. “You’re seriously scared of making her jealous? Are you serious right now?”

“I didn’t come for your judgment,” he says, sneering at me. “Do you have a blue hoodie with a black stripe down the arm?”

“No, I don’t think so-”

“All set!”

I whip around at the sound of Mack’s voice. I stare at him wide-eyed as he waltzes out of my bedroom like everything is completely normal. He walks into the kitchen, standing next to me. I give a nervous chuckle as I turn back around to face Trevor.

“What are you doing here?” Trevor asks. His voice only sounds curious, so I try to smile like nothing is going on.

“Leaky sink,” Mack lies through his teeth. “Pipe just needed to be tightened. Luckily, I didn’t have to go home to grab my tools.” He pauses, looking at me. “I was able to get everything done here with just my hands.”

“Mack was just on his way out!” I interject before he makes this worse. I push on his back, moving him toward the front door, and Trevor follows.

“Thea, you called Mack over me? You know I’m better at maintenance.”

Mack sucks air through his teeth, mocking Trevor. “That’s up for debate, buddy,” he says, patting Trevor on the back.

“Then how come I was the only one who could get the refrigerator to work back when we lived on Hillsdale?” Trevor asks more as a statement than a question.

“Mack was already in the area,” I jump in to end this conversation and get them out of my house. Mack’s eyes flash down my body like he’s thinking about exactly why he was in the area. I swallow hard, forcing a smile. “I’ll let you both fight over who wants to fix the next thing that breaks when it happens, but I have food on the way. So if you don’t mind, I’m going to get back to my night in alone.”
