“The city is shooting off fireworks at the lake next weekend. Addy and I are going out there. Invite whoever if you want to come,” Declan says.

I nod. “Yeah, I’m down. I get back into town Friday morning, but I should be able to make it.”

“When are you taking off?”

“Tonight. Thank God, this should be my last out of town trip for at least a couple months. We’re finally closing on the Miller deal.”

Declan seems distracted. “Yeah,” he says, nodding his head but seeming like he’s lost in thought.

“Hello?” I ask, laughing. “You there?”

“Hm?” he asks, trying to play it off.

I notice a jewelry box sitting on the counter. I slide it across the counter to myself and pop open the lid. My eyes bug out of my head at the sparkly ring staring back at me. “No fucking way!” I yell, looking back up at Declan. “When are you going to ask?”

He snatches the ring box out of my hands. “Shit. You weren’t supposed to see that.”

“Why?” I laugh. “Afraid she’s going to say no?”

He gives a nervous laugh. “She absolutely might. You know Addy.”

I grab his shoulder and give it a squeeze. “Nah, man. That girl loves you. Congrats.”

Speak of the devil, Addison opens the front door, carrying in some groceries. Declan’s face lights up when he sees her. I’m happy for him. “Hi, babe,” he says, kissing her hello.

“Hey Ad,” I say, and we both help her put away the groceries.

She goes to their bedroom to take a shower, leaving us alone again. Declan leans on his hands against the counter. “So what’s going on with you and Thea?”

I open my eyes wide. “What do you mean?” I ask, trying to sidestep the question.

He looks at me like I’m full of shit. “I mean what’s going on with you and Thea.”

“What makes you think there’s anything going on?”

He cocks an eyebrow. “Let’s just say it’s a twin thing.”

I lean back against the counter, folding my arms over my chest. “Well, your twindar is off because that question is coming from Addy one hundred percent.”

Declan throws his head back with a laugh. “Regardless, we both know there’s something happening there. So how about you just admit it.”

“I don’t want to,” I mumble at the ground.

Declan’s mouth drops in shock like he’s so embarrassed by me. “C’mon, dude. Don’t be a bitch. Man up and admit it.”

I sigh at the ceiling. “Fine. Yes, something is going on.”

Addy yells from down the hall. “I knew it!”

“Hey, butt out of this!” I shout back to her.

She giggles. “Declan’s going to tell me everything you guys talk about anyway. You know that right?”

“Yeah, yeah!” I say. “Go take your shower.”
