“I’m so fucking jealous. You have no fucking idea. The thought that those creeps get to talk to you while I’m working. We’re going to be three hours different too. Maybe you could send me some things to remember you by.”

“Things?” she asks like she’s innocent. “What kind of things?”

I play along even though my dick is already getting hard. “You know, maybe some photos. A video or two.”

“Videos? Oh? And what would I be doing in these videos?”

My body shudders at the thought. “Don’t tease me, Thea Marie.”

“I’m going to let you go. Don’t want you to miss your flight.”

“Fine,” I grumble. “But if you find yourself needing a break from Amanda, you can be in and out of my room in five minutes or less. I can make it quick.”

“Tempting,” she says with a laugh. “I’ll be seeing you, Carver. Have a good trip.”

“Goodnight, Thea.”

Chapter 28

Mack

The girls are all talking a mile a minute. Addy holds out her hand, showing them all the ring while the guys stand back and let them have their moment. I tap my beer up against Declan’s. “I told you she’d say yes,” I say before tipping back a sip.

“I still can’t believe it,” he says almost to himself while looking over at her. His eyes haven’t left her since we got here.

She catches him looking and smiles shyly. She’s so much different than when we first met. She was so guarded and closed off, but now it’s like she’s already family, which I guess pretty soon she really will be.

Declan can’t resist, invading the girls’ space and wrapping his arms around Addy’s waist from behind. Everyone is distracted by their little lovey dovey display, so I take the moment, locking my eyes in on Thea. It’s taken everything in me to not go up and wrap her in my arms. God, it’s only been a week, but I’ve fucking missed her.

We barely had any time to talk this week. I’ve been in meetings all week, and by the time I’d get to my hotel, she’d be working. Not to mention the three hour time difference, making it even more complicated. I was able to send a few texts here and there but we haven’t had a chance to talk about anything yet.

But hey, there’s no harm in saying hello. I’m allowed to do that with my friends. I walk closer to the group, but Addy and Thea are talking when I approach her. “Yeah, I think I found out on Monday,” Thea giggles.

“What?” Addison yells. “How?”

Thea turns toward me, swatting her hand against my arm. “Mack told me.”

Declan glares at me. “Seriously, dude? You were supposed to keep it a secret.”

I throw up my hands, not knowing what I was walking into. “She made me tell her.”

Thea cocks an eyebrow. “How did I make you tell me?”

“Because you scare me,” I say, not entirely joking.

Thea crosses her arms. “You’re the one who brought it up.”

Trevor walks up behind us. “You told Thea, but not me?” he asks.

The sudden spotlight on Thea and I makes me nervous. I try to play it cool. “Yeah, well our conversations don’t usually consist of gossip. Something I can’t say is true for me and Thea.”

Thea shakes her head, narrowing her eyes at me. “I can’t tell if I’m just hangry or if you’re being a prick, so I’m going to get some food.” She turns to Addison. “Care to join? I need to hear every detail of how he asked.”

We all eventually make our way into the kitchen. I help Declan carry in the burgers and hotdogs from the grill. The house fills up fast since Addision and Declan invited more people than usual to celebrate, and a lot of neighbors showed up to the lake today for the fireworks.

I finally have a moment semi-alone with Thea in the kitchen as she’s grabbing a drink from the fridge. I reach in at the same time as her, grabbing myself another beer and brushing my hand against hers.

“Hi,” I whisper in her ear before pulling back.
