Gazing up at Axel through wet lashes, I draw in a deep shuddering breath.

In a way, I’m glad we’ve arrived at wherever our destination is – obviously not home, because he would have just said that – because I was out of my mind, feral with a need for him, and I would have snapped and climbed him like a tree and made him fuck me if we didn’t, apparently, have somewhere more important to be.

“What time is it?” I ask, my throat scratchy and raw from screaming. I wish I had a drink to soothe my throat. I sit up and try to smooth down the material of my dress and adjust myself into some kind of presentability, but I fear it’s useless. My panties are ruined, and I’ve nothing to clean up with. “Do you have a tissue? Do limos come equipped with them? Can I get a water?”

“It’s after midnight,” Axel replies before cracking the lid and handing me a bottle of water. “Have this, and allow me.”

Once I take the bottle from his hands, he pulls a handkerchief from his pocket and carefully cleans my face. The contrast between Axel Abbot wearing jeans and cleaning me with a monogrammed silk hanky makes me slightly hysterical

“What?” Axel frowns.

“You…in jeans…” I laugh, before tipping the water bottle up to my lips.

“Laugh it up princess,” he snipes, swiping the handkerchief between my legs and making my giggle turn into a gasp.

“Oh!” I jerk and splash water down my chest.

“Yeah,oh. Now let me clean you up before I say fuck it and dine on round two and you make us late for a very important date.”

Speechless, I let him clean me up, his actions so caring and tender that I get a lump in my throat. I’m a fucking emotional wreck tonight, but my bones feel heavy and sated, and if I weren’t so fucking curious about our midnightimportant date,I’d be ready for my bed. Hell, I’d sleep right here in this limo. It’s comfy enough.

The door to the limo opens and Axel climbs out, immediately turning and offering his hand to me. I take a big gulp of water, replace the cap and toss it onto the seat beside me, then I take his hand and, still barefoot and wondering if my legs will even work, allow him to help me from the car.

“What took you so fucking long?” Kaiden moans.

I spin to face him and Zie, shocked to see them here…wherever here is. They’re standing in front of a small church or chapel, but I don’t recognise it and I can’t read the sign from where I am.

“Had to eat on the way,” Axel replies smugly, wiping his mouth unsubtly in a way which makes my cheeks heat.

“Holy shit, did he just make a joke?” Zie grumbles.

“No joke, brother,” Axel replies, seeming serious all of a sudden. “She was the finest delicacy I’ve ever tasted. And, lucky son of a bitch that I am, it’s a dish I get to enjoy every day for the rest of my life.”

Kaiden punches him in the shoulder and Axel grins wickedly at him. All I can do is stare. I love this side of him – he’s almost playful. It’s a side I haven’t seen for so long. Since before we were teens even. Axel turned thirteen and it was like a light inside him was extinguished, but right now, messing around with his brothers on the grass, I can see the boy he once was.

“What are we doing here?” I ask, my voice still croaky.

Kaiden laughs, his deep belly chuckle that always thrills me.

“What?” I demand, trying not to smile.

“You’re hoarse as fuck. Told you you’re a screamer babe.”

“Shut up,” I mumble, feeling embarrassed.

This dynamic is so weird, there’s no need to make it even more awkward by discussing sex with one another. Everything’sso delicately balanced, the last thing I want is to throw that off. Not when things seem so good.

“We’re here to meet with the vicar,” Zie explains.

“At midnight?” I ask incredulously.

“He had an opening,” Axel replies with a smirk and a shrug that don’t fit together.

“What is this?” I ask. “Are we having a run-through of Saturday or something?” Maybe the vicar is refusing to wed us without meeting us first or something.

“This is plan B,” Axel says.

“Plan B?” I push, still not understanding.
