“But now Ireallydon’t want to go out,” Axel adds, stepping towards me with menacing intent.

I turn to him and give him my best sultry look, all eyelashes and whatever shit girls do to try and be sexy. “Go,” I command. “Have a great time. But come home to me. And remember, if anyone is going to get on their knees and crawl to you, husband, after Saturday, it will be your wife.”

An unholy rumbling growl escapes Axel’s chest and makes my core clench with need, but Zie and Kaiden intervene, grabbing Axel before he can pounce and ravish me on his checkerboard floor. I giggle as they drag him away, promising over their shoulders to be good boys, and I blow them kisses.

Two minutes later my phone beeps with a text.

Zie: Being claimed like that was the hottest thing I’ve ever witnessed. I’m holding you to those words. Be safe x

Okay, so we may not have hadtheconversation about where Kaiden and Zie are planning to fit into this marriage, but I think I’ve just made my intentions very clear.

Pleased with myself, I text Lou that the coast is clear for her to come over. The guys know she’s coming, but draw the line at Lou, saying the others weren’t ‘vetted’ enough to be welcome in the sanctuary. Whatever. Head shake, sigh, choose my battles. So while Axel’s off enjoying his metaphorical last night of freedom, I have a date with a six-foot-five hunk of brooding morally grey man. Lou’s coming over to binge watch Reacher with me, horrified that I’ve never seen it before now.

I busy myself getting snacks ready for us, and even manage to mix myself a non-alcoholic cocktail that doesn’t taste like a child’s drink. Zie, bless him, picked up some non alcoholic spirits for me to try, so I gave those a go.

I give Lou my share of the actual booze. I’m not exactly planning to get her drunk tonight, but if it helps her relax and open up a bit about her past with Saint, then I’ll take it. I want to make sure she really is going to be okay with being around him on Saturday.

“Hey babe,” I say brightly when the doorbell rings and I open the door.

Her jaw is hanging and I laugh.

“Fuck me. I thought their pad on campus was posh. This shit is next level. How the fuck do guys our age live like this?”

I’m taking that question as rhetorical because Lou is one of the sharpest people I know, so there’s no way she can’t answer that question for herself. If she wanted to. I certainly don’t want to fill her in.

“Come in, I mixed drinks.”

I step back and let her into the foyer, and if anything, she gapes even more. “Fuck this place is gorgeous.”

“Everything’s set up in the lounge. Kaiden set up the projector for me before the guys left because it’s a bit technical to figure out. Too many remotes. They even have one for the curtains!” I shake my head. “Who’s too fucking posh to open and close their own curtains?”

“Ummm, Axel Abbot, that’s who.”

“Kaiden’s probably the worst for using it though.”

“That’s ‘cause he’s lazy,” Lou laughs. She’s got the measure of my men alright.

“Well come on through, let’s get comfy. I’m excited to watch this show now you’ve hyped it up so much.”

Several hours later I’m ready to admit that if I didn’t already have my heart dissected between three men, I would be seriously panting after Jack Reacher.

Clearly, I have a thing for morally grey guys. Lou too, if the drool at the corner of her mouth is anything to go by.

Laughing, I chuck a box of tissues at her. “For the drool,” I tease her.

“You’re one to talk! I saw you eye fucking him like a thirsty bitch. Wonder what your husband-to-be would think of that.”

I shrug. “No harm in looking. Besides, he’s fictional.”

“Yeah, but the actor isn’t.”

“True, but it’s the whole character that makes him so attractive, no?”

“Touché. I guess we both have a thing for dangerous guys,” she replies, sighing.

I see my opening and take it.

“Did you always know Saint was dangerous?” I ask tentatively.
