“Harder, more.”

Lifting her so she straddles me, I look up into her feverish eyes. “Take what you need, wife.”

Her hands move over her body, fingers toying with her breasts as I grip her hips and watch, mesmerized by the sight of her taking what she needs. Head thrown back in rapture as she works her pussy up and down my cock, riding me as we both hold on to our sanity by a thread. Nothing has ever felt as good as Audrey like this. Wild, free, confident, and all mine.

“I’m close, Hudson.”

Moving my thumb, I stroke her clit in slow firm circles and it is all she needs, as her release clamps down on me. Her movements become erratic as she braces herself on my chest and takes and takes until she is limp.

Flipping her, I kiss her, as her fingers rake through my hair, scoring my scalp, and causing electricity to course straight to my cock. Burying my head in her neck, I thrust deep and hard, the sounds of her pleasure spurring me on until my own climax drags me under with a groan.

“Mine. You’re mine, Audrey.”

“Only yours, husband.”

If I wasn’t already wildly in love with her, I would have fallen in that moment. “I love you, wife.”

She remains silent, kissing my neck and I pretend her not saying it back doesn’t matter. We are in different places and Audrey is dealing with a lot. I know what she feels for me, she shows me with her body. I can wait for the words.

I make love to her until the early hours of the morning, watching as her lips fall open again and again in a wordless scream, her body holding me prisoner until I’m spent.

Lookingat myself in the mirror, it’s like a surreal dream. This is my wedding day, and it feels nothing like I imagined it would. Not because I’m not crazy in love with my groom, because I am, and I’m not sure that’s a smart thing. Hudson says he loves me, but if we hadn’t got drunk in Vegas, we’d likely still be at odds. And if my father wasn’t dying, this would’ve been over by now.

It all feels like we’re building something on a foundation made of sand. Everything is finely balanced, and it makes my love for Hudson feel foolish. It’s why I can’t say it back. If I say it, it’s real and that is terrifying.

“You look beautiful, Audrey.”

I glance at my mom and Aunt Heather in the mirror. There have been a fair few tears this morning. The weight of why we’re doing this so quickly is heavy in my heart. I’m going to lose my dad and I have no idea how to handle that. “Thank you, Mom.”

I’ve styled my hair with an antique diamond comb that belonged to my grandmother. I have such wonderful memories of her. She was strong and loving and the one person who could keep my grandad in check. He loved her fiercely and, after she died, all his soft edges hardened. I never understood it until I lost Hudson, but I think I’m a lot like him.

“Is Tia okay?”

My mother gets a soft smile on her lips. She’s really bonded with Tia. Almost as if she’s a granddaughter instead of the sister of her son-in-law.

“She’s fine. Norrie took her to see Hudson.” She gets a weepy look in her eyes, which makes my nose sting. “He’s such a good man for stepping up the way he did. Not many boys his age would’ve done the same.”

“He loves her. She’s his family. I don’t think there was ever any question that he wouldn’t look after her.”

“As I say, you got yourself a good one, Audrey.”

“I did.”

A knock on my childhood bedroom door has me looking up to see my dad dressed in a black tuxedo. My gaze scans him, looking for signs that he’s struggling, but he looks good today. The color that’s usually missing is there and it gives him a more youthful appearance.

“Hey, Daddy.”

“Princess, don’t you look like a picture.” He steps into the room as my mom grips his arm and kisses his cheek before giving a little wave.

“See you down there, sweetheart.”

“Thanks, Mom.”

My father steps into the room and moves toward me with such pride in his eyes my knees almost give out.

“Oh, sweetheart, you look beautiful. Hudson is a very lucky man.”
