I kiss her lips and stand, leaving her looking freshly fucked and beautiful.

“I’ll order room service. You’re going to need your energy for what I have planned.”

Audrey grins sexily and my knees almost buckle. “Can’t wait, husband.”

“Thanks for comingwith me today, you didn’t have to.”

We’re in my parents’ living room, a week after our beautiful wedding and, as usual, Hudson is beside me. Tia is in the kitchen with my mom, plating some cookies and my dad has popped into the library to get a book on modern-day villains and what it means for the world, which he thinks Hudson will enjoy.

“It’s fine. I told you, I like your parents and Tia loves your mom.”

I smile, remembering the excitement on Tia’s face when we said we were visiting. She’d been a little quiet this week and it’s good to see her back to her old self.

“Here it is. I thought it was on the shelf, but it was on the coffee table stack.”

I hustle to take the book from my dad, who is looking very pale today. He’s also a little breathless and that concerns me. “You should have let me find it for you.”

“I’m not a child who needs coddling, Audrey.”

“I know that, but I love you and I want to help.”

“You have helped. You help me every day by living your life to the fullest.”

I hand the book off to Hudson, who gives me a wink, which makes all my insides go gooey.

“Here we go, finger sandwiches and cookies, made by Tia Carmichael,” my mom says with a grin that I know is forced.

Tia smiles proudly as she carries the plate of cookies to the table and sets them down carefully.

“Well, young lady, what do we have here?”

Watching Tia with my dad makes my heart squeeze painfully. He would have been such an amazing grandfather. Now he’ll never get the chance, even if I could provide him with grandkids.

I half listen as Tia animatedly tells my dad about the sandwiches, and he gives her every bit of his attention. That’s what sticks in my mind about growing up. My parents were busy people, but when I had their attention, I had it fully. I didn’t need to fight with a parent who had their head in their phone or their attention split. I see it with Hudson, too. When he’s home, he gives us everything.

It’s why I know that cheating him out of the chance to become a father is wrong and, although it breaks my heart, I don’t see how we could work. I glance at him to find him watching me, his head cocked.

“You, okay?” he mouths and I nod, but he knows me too well. “Audrey, will you help me with something in the kitchen?”

I lift a brow at his not-so-subtle question. “What?”

Hudson scratches his cheek. “I wanted some ice and wasn’t sure where it might be.”

“For your coffee? You want ice for your coffee?” I’m teasing him now, and I can see my parents sniggering and Tia frowning.

“Maybe he wants Iced coffee. My teacher likes that, too.”

Tia is so cute defending him.

Hudson points at his sister. “Yes, I fancied an Iced coffee.”

“That seems odd. You usually hate cold drinks.”

He shakes his head, and takes my hand, pulling me up with a deep chuckle that moves through me like a caress.

“For the love of God, woman. Can you just do as I ask for once in your life?”
