They both burst out laughing. Meegan finally grabbed a tissue and wiped her face before she kept talking. “I shouldn’t have disappeared, but I was just fucking sad.”

“I get it. I just wish you had told me,” Marcos replied. “We could have at least fucked you while you were sad.”

“You’re too sweet.”

“For real, I’m glad you texted me and I’m glad you’re here. You’re still my friend.”

“And I don’t want that to change.”

“I felt betrayed by Philip, too. And Evelyn,” he admitted. “I knew they would retire at some point, but I thought they would just get someone to manage The Club day to day. I didn’t think they’d uncollar us and leave town.”

“Yeah, that was a lot.”

“I can definitely see how hard that was for you, not having someone else to ease the blow. But you got someone now and he is cute! I wanna hear more about him. I already know he has good taste in jewelry,” Marcos said.

Meegan’s fingers automatically went to her necklace. “Aw geez. He’s the best.”

“Yeah?”

“Yes, he’s so sweet. He wasn’t in the lifestyle at all, so he’s been learning a lot, just in the last month.”

“I mean, getting him into The Club in a month is pretty impressive.”

“I don’t—I don’t think we can come back. I don’t think I can come back. He came to the party for me and I can’t hold this weird ‘Well, if you can’t handle the Club…’ condition over his head. It’s not fair.”

“But can you walk away for good?”

“Now? Yes. Evelyn is in the walls. It’s still too much. And this other part, I—I wanted my person and I think I found him.”

“Well, damn.”

“I know.”

“I don’t think I can argue with that. We can still hang outside of The Club, though. TK misses you too and I want to get to know your new boo,” Marcos said.

“I’d like that.”

They spent some more time talking and catching up. She’d really been a fool, staying away from her friends for so long. After a while, she figured she should probably have Olin come and get her. Perfect boyfriend that he was, he was just down Sunset waiting for her at the In-N-Out. She said goodbye to TK and was glad when Marcos was eager to come downstairs and meet her new beau. Like an absolute stud, they found Olin outside, leaning against his Mercedes.

“Mr. Breivik, we meet again,” Marcos walked right up to him and held out his hand. Olin returned the offer with a firm shake. Meegan slid up under his other arm and hugged him tight.

“Marcos, it’s nice to finally meet you properly. I’m a big fan of your work.”

“Oh, that’s right. You’ve seen me in ‘It’s Your Birthday, Meegan Whalen’ and ‘The Pink Room, Part One’.”

“You put on quite the show. Truly impressive stuff.”

“Why, thank you. I do like to show off in front of a camera,” Marcos replied with his signature smile. “I know you two probably want to get home and relax, but Teak and I would love to have you over for dinner some time.”

“I think we can do that,” Olin replied, looking down at Meegan.

“Yes, please. I’d love that.”

“Good.” Marcos started backing away from the car. “I mean it, Juicy. Don’t be a stranger.”

“I won’t!”

“Do I want to know what ‘Juicy’ is all about?” Olin asked as he opened the passenger door for her.
