For the life of me, I couldn’t understand it. I really couldn’t, especially not the way that she seemed annoyed by my normal anxiousness to know that everything was covered. Dani’s never even grumbled at me, let alone snapped at me before. Hell, she calms my ass down whenever I get into one of these moods before a big meeting. The fact that she didn’t simply had me questioning everything.

Those questions were even higher when she didn’t begin to hide her disdain for Zack Prescott. It was when I saw her eyes after I told her to stay clear of him that really woke me. She couldn’t hide the hunger in them when she looked at me, or theway she breathed in hard at my nearness. I don’t know how my brain finally figured it out, because all of my blood was pumping through my hard cock.

Somewhere between seeing that look and having to get “Dani’s” attention to start the recording, it hit me that it wasn’t Dani sitting next to me it was her sister, Gabriela.

Dani’s told me about Gabi, vented to me about little things, such as Gabi getting fired from a retail job because she mouthed off to the boss. That little nugget came to mind and combined with the things she said to me, along with the slightly new look, I knew it was Gabi I wanted, not Dani.

The only thing my assistant never told me was her that her “younger” sister Gabi, was actually her twin—identical twin, in looks at least. Although there are little things that seem different to me, including Gabi’s eyes. They’re a warmer honey than Dani’s are—then again, that might just be from the heat radiating from them when she glances at me.

It’s a fucking good thing no one else can see the look in them when she gazes my way. I’d kill any bastard that saw my woman’s eyes with hunger in them.

It’s also a good thing I know from Dani that Gabi is currently single. She broke up with the latest jerk a few weeks ago, relieving Dani enough that I was curious what was up with her. That’s when she mentioned that Gabi broke up with whatever his name was, and she was glad because it meant he wouldn’t be coming to their door, hitting on her if Gabi wasn’t ready yet. Knowing they’re twins now, makes me want to knock the fucker out even more than I did seeing the way it made Dani uncomfortable.

I’ve felt protective over her before, but it’d always been in a brotherly way, which is why this morning screwed with me so much. Now, I know I’m not losing my fucking mind, but I am slightly concerned.

I watch Gabi slip down the side hall from our office suite, knowing she can’t see me with the coating on the glass windows. I had them set up so we could see who was headed our way, but no one could see into them, providing a bit more privacy for me and my personal staff.

She takes out her phone, calling someone, and the tension radiates off her body, making me curious. It lessens as she talks, and I shoot off a text message to Dani, hoping she sees it and will respond. I know Gabi doesn’t have her phone, because the red phone case Gabi has is vastly different from Dani’s black case.

A half-smile settles on my lips as I watch Gabi end her call. It grows more when my phone begins to ring almost instantly with Dani’s name on the screen.

“I’m sure you had a good reason for sending your twin to work in your place, but it doesn’t even matter at this point, Dani,” I says answering the call, watching Gabi let out a breath before turning back towards the conference room. “The only thing I need from you right now is to clue me in on how long you intend to play out this switch.”

“How did you know it was Gabi and not me?” Dani asks, making me chuckle under my breath.

“Well, first off, she came waltzing in here wearing stilettos that I know you’d never be wearing, then she ditched your favorite blazer and your usually demur blouse was only buttoned half-way. I’ll admit at first, I thought you’d gone in for a slight makeover, and it threw me because you certainly weren’t the girl I’ve spent the last four years working with without even the faintest hint of attraction obscuring the employee-employer line. Which had me wondering if you weren’t doing it because of a certain individual that was coming to the meeting this morning, who’s asked me more than once what you looked like,” I admit, not about to let a jackass like Prescott anywhere near my assistant. I know the man’s reputation and Dani already hadenough to deal with between her job with me and taking care of her sister. I wasn’t about to let him put more pressure on her.

“And I’ve already told you that I want nothing to do with Zack Prescott more than once,” she retorts sounding offended.

“Well, you might have simply been keeping things close to the chest until after the merger was handled. It only took a minute speaking with the ‘you’ this morning to know that the Dani standing in front of me wasn’t you, and while I wasn’t aware that your sister Gabriela was actually your identical twin, I knew she was your sister that you constantly were looking out for. It wasn’t much of a stretch to realize that she was actually here instead of you. Which, I’m quite thankful for and angry about at the same time, Dani,” I add, then feel like an ass for stating it that way hearing her suck in a breath in worry.

“I’m sorry, I…”

“I’m angry that you didn’t bring her by anytime in the last four years for me to take her off your hands,” I state, stopping her beginning of an apology.

“What?” Dani gasps out, putting a smile on my lips at her shock.

“You know that I’m not one to waste time when there’s something I want, and the moment I saw her, I knew I wasn’t letting Zack get close to her—even if I was surprised to find that I wanted my assistant suddenly,” I tell her, hoping she’s good with me being with her sister. It won’t dissuade me if she’s not, but I’d rather not be at odds with my assistant. “I know she’s a handful, but I think I can handle her. I simply need a bit more time with her since we’ve been in this meeting all morning. Hence the call to you to see what the plan was, and also to ensure you’re okay.”

“I’m fine. This was Gabi’s idea to start. Her mouth got her in trouble at work, and she was supposed to come apologize to the person she offended, but after hearing her impressions ofhim, we both knew she’d just get herself deeper into trouble, so she asked me to handle it for her. I told her no when she said it was supposed to be today at ten because of the meeting, but she promised she wouldn’t do anything stupid, just set up the conference room and record the meeting. We’re supposed to meet at the café on Main at twelve-thirty to switch back,” she tells me, but I definitely don’t want that.

“That won’t be happening, but it does give me the perfect opportunity to get closer to Gabi. Is everything with this other person handled or do you need me to…”

“You worry about Gabi and leave Daniela to me, Wilmont.”

“Jeremy?” I ask, shocked to my core at the voice that just came through my phone.

“Yes, and you’re lucky that you said you’ve had no interest in my girl since you met, because if I ever learn differently, you’ll be on the wrong side of my fists again,” Jeremy states.

“Wait, what the hell is going on?” I ask scratching my jaw right now, trying to figure out what just happened.

“What’s going on, is that Gabi was supposed to come apologize to me for assuming the women I meet at the restaurant where she works were all dates, and that I was simply a rude asshole, and they were just with me because they’re after money. She was half-right about them being after money since they’re all clients, but I’ve forgiven her for all of that and more for putting Daniela in front of me. She might think they were still on for switching back for the afternoon, but that was never going to happen. In fact, don’t plan on seeing Daniela for the rest of the week. I have no intention of letting her go anywhere that I’m not anytime soon, and no intention of letting her go period,” Jeremy adds, his tone one I haven’t ever heard from him, not even when he was engaged. No, it’s possessive as hell, and it baffles me that it’s in relation to my quiet, buttoned-up assistant of all people, considering his ex makes Gabi seem tame.

Hell, Dani mentioned their tastes in clothes were vastly different. That Gabi like tighter outfits, going out to dance in her short skirts, but Jeremy’s ex-fiancée left nothing to the imagination. At twenty-five, it was understandable that it would attract his attention. I just didn’t expect him to go for the complete opposite now at thirty-five.

“Dani?” I state, wanting to know she’s okay with Jeremy’s sudden he-man attitude.

“I’m fine, better than fine. Just don’t hurt my sister, okay?” Dani replies, her worry clear, but I won’t let it stack up on top of the hundreds of other things she worries about daily.
