“You really are something else,” I sigh, shaking my head.

Axel glares at me but he knows he’s outnumbered so he keeps his mouth shut.

“I’ll cut you in on the bar,” Asher says, surprising everyone. “Twenty percent of the profits in your pocket and you don’t have to do a thing.”

Axel doesn’t look impressed and I want to beat the shit out of him myself.

“Same with my company,” I offer. “And so help me if you and your guys don’t come when we snap our fingers—”

“What are you gonna do you little shit?” He growls.

“He won’t have to do anything because I’ll kill you myself,” Ax threatens. “You help us until this shit is over. If you don’t, then you don’t get shit.”

Axel watches us as he works it over in his head. I know the next word out of his mouth is going to be something more he wants.

“This place is a shit hole,” he says, eyeing Ax smugly. “How’s about a fancy little house to call my own.”

“Where the fuck do you expect me to get you the money for a house?”

The smirk on his face says it all. Ax knows it too and I see his face redden with the strain of doing everything he can to stop from pummeling his dad like I just did to Roy.

“Only after this mess is handled,” Ax finally hisses.

“Not good enough. I want to know that you made the call and the papers will be ready to go.”

Ax says nothing to his father as he turns his back to leave. Red shakes his head and slowly everyone heads out.

“You’re a piece of shit, Axel,” I tell him, shaking my head.

“He’s a big boy. He’ll be fine.”

“You never cease to amaze me,” I tell him, shaking my head as I head out to get in the car with Ax and Asher.

Ax grips the steering wheel and I’m about to ask if he wants me to drive when he smacks the dashboard.

“Fuck!” He screams.

“Let me drive,” Asher says, beating me to the punch.

Ax doesn’t even argue as he climbs in the back seat to let Asher drive. “You don’t need to, man,” I tell him, sighing. “We will figure something else out.”

“I’ll handle it.”

CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE

KATE

I wake up through the night to the sound of something breaking. My heart races as I listen again and hear glass shattering. Before I can get out of bed, my door opens and Eli eyes me.

“Thought you might have woken up,” he says. “Everything’s fine. Just stay in bed.”

“Yeah, right,” I snap at him. “What is going on?”

Something else smashes and Eli runs a hand down his face in frustration.

“Ax is having a rough night.”

“From seeing his dad?”
