“Sorry, but I gotta steal her away. Come on, Kate.”

I follow him without argument, still flustered from earlier with Ax. I follow him towards the car and he wraps an arm around my shoulders. “You alright?”

“Why wouldn’t I be?” I rush and his lips twitch up.

“Look a little ruffled. You and Ax get into it in the office?”

My face burns and he laughs as he nuzzles his face in my neck.

“I meant did you two argue,” he whispers.

“I…kind of…” I hesitate and spot the car come into view. “Bolted after messing with him a bit.”

Eli stops walking and raises an eyebrow at me.

“So, we have a pissed off Ax and a hot and bothered Kate to deal with? This will be interesting.”

I shove him as he grabs me back to his body and Ax shouts for us to hurry up. I climb in the back of the SUV with Eli and Asher glances back at us. “You can dance on my bar any time,” he tells me with a smirk. “But no more giving the music to Bianca.”

I grin at him. “Good luck with that.”

“Are you gonna drive any time soon?” Eli asks and Ax glares at him in the rear view mirror.

He turns in his seat and I feel his eyes on me as I try to avoid looking at him. When I finally meet his gaze some of the angry glare is gone, but he still seems pissy.

“I need to know whether you want to confront your dad or not.”

The car grows silent. Bastard caught me off guard. I’ve been trying to avoid thinking about the fact they found my dad and the step monster.

“She doesn’t have to decide tonight,” Asher says softly, eyeing Ax.

“No. But I plan to go tomorrow whether you come or not.”

My chest tightens. “Are you going to kill him?”

Ax’s face stays unreadable as he answers, “Do you want me to kill him?”

I frown. “No.”

Asher snorts. “Why?”

I give him a dirty look and he looks away uncomfortably.

“Why don’t I want you to murder someone?” I ask sarcastically, and Ax rolls his eyes.

“What I decide to do will be my business. I’m just wondering how pissed you’ll be.”

“If you kill him before I get to hear him tell me why—”

“Kate,” Eli sighs as he runs a hand over his face.

“So, then tell me,” Ax snaps. “What explanation makes what he did okay?”

“I didn’t say that!”

“Then why do you need to know his reasoning?”

“I just—” I huff with irritation. “I just don’t understand why he’d do any of this! I’m still his daughter.”
