“What if I hadn’t followed you? What were you going to do?”

Axel snorts and raises an eyebrow at me. “I knew you’d follow me, you little shit. That’s why I took your car with the GPS.”

CHAPTER FORTY SIX

KATE

“I really think I should just wait a year,” I sigh.

Asher crosses his arms over his chest and eyes me. “Katelyn Elizabeth, turn that cute little butt around and start walking.”

I glare at him but can’t hold it as I start laughing and turn around. The community college looks massive as I stare up the steps to the main building.

“I don’t want you guys having to babysit me every time I have class though.”

“You can show me how appreciative you are later, baby cakes,” he whispers and his breath tickles my neck as he leans in towards me.

I shove him playfully and take a breath as I take that first step up the stairs. Today classes start and while I’ve opted only to go part time for now, I’m still excited about this opportunity I didn’t think I’d ever get. The two classes I have today are spent with syllabuses and introductions and when I bound down the staircase to find Asher afterwards, he is already sitting on the ledge of the railing waiting for me.

He grabs me up and kisses me roughly, making my toes curl and my stomach twist.

“I’m so proud of you,” he whispers before kissing me gently once more.

We barely make it in the doorway when we get home before he pulls my shirt up over my head and I’m wrapping my legs around his waist. He doesn’t break stride as he lays me on his bed and tugs my shorts off of me. He’s inside of me before I can even get his shirt over his head and my hands grip tightly to the fabric as I cry out.

His hands reach down to flick my clit and I gasp as he fills me completely. His teeth nip at my neck and my back arches as he hits the spot that sends electricity through my body. I don’t even care that the door to the room opens as I reach my high and Asher’s name falls from my lips. He finishes with a curse before kissing me again and I hear chuckling behind him.

“I'm guessing you had a good first day?” Eli asks with a dark smirk.

I grin at him as he comes over and kisses me. “An amazing day.”

EPILOGUE

KATE

It has been three months since I escaped from Scott. Winter break is just starting and I’ve been able to keep up on all my classes along with improving in the kitchen thanks to Rhonda. Bianca has moved into the house temporarily as she is trying to work through everything that has happened and I haven’t missed the fact Colt spends a majority of his time here now as well. It is hard seeing my normally bubbly and bright friend seeming to have shut down and suffering from the same type of crippling anxiety I deal with. I’m grateful we have each other and that Colt is able to be here for her whenever I’m occupied with classes or with my guys.

So far we haven’t been able to find any girls that may be being held by Cobra and his men but we have located a handful of women that have suffered at the hands of Thorne. Being able to let them know that he is dead is the smallest gift we can give them but I hope it helps them sleep a little easier knowing that at least one monster is buried for good.

No one has heard a word about Scott. I can’t tell if that makes me happy or nervous. I’m not naive to the fact he could try to grab me up again as a means to save him or his dad’s ass considering they are both seemingly on the run from Cobra and hiding from the Vipers. All I know is if I never see him again, it’ll be fine with me.

“Red talked to another woman, goes by Callie now. Her real name is Claudia Campbell,” Eli says walking into the kitchen and sitting down with all of us. “Ten years ago Thorne startedpimping her out. She was only thirteen. She has the same story as the others. Was friends with this mysterious daughter of his through some homeschooling co-op group. It went from him hosting the girls there for studying while their parents worked, to him getting them alcohol or letting them have parties and covering for them to their parents. It slowly changed into having them over for parties he hosted with other guys and promising the girls cash in their pockets. Callie wound up addicted to heroin and when her parents found out, they kicked her out. Thorne offered her a place to stay with him and his daughter and essentially held her hostage and pimped her out for about three years before she managed to get free. She’s been on the streets ever since.”

“Jesus,” Asher groans.

“A lot of these girls mention a daughter. But you can’t find anything on her?” I ask Colt and he shakes his head at me with a frustrated look.

“Sounds like she went by all different names. Callie called her Jane. Skye called her Lauren. Jenny called her Ophelia. Either way, she’s a ghost. She was homeschooled so there won’t be any public transcripts to find. And I can’t find him listed on any birth certificates, though we know Russel Thorne is just one of many aliases anyways.”

It feels like a dead end. Everywhere we turn it’s another dead end. Eli must sense my frustration because he rubs a thumb along my cheek and kisses my forehead.

“We will figure it out,” he promises me.

Ax’s phone rings and after a few hushed words he curses before hanging up.

“That was Daren. He is giving us a head start before he has to officially report it. Warehouse in Allensdale just caught fire and they found three bodies inside. All three guys have The Cobra tattoo on their wrist. It’s about a two hour drive, let’s go.”

Without hesitation we grab up our things. This is our life now and I honestly wouldn’t give it up for anything. Our meshed up little group may come from all different backgrounds and we all have our own fucked up pasts but we have learned you can’t change the past. You can’t control other people's decisions. You are only in control of what you want to do from this point forward, and for us? We won’t give up fighting to save others that have fallen into the clutches of Cobra.
