Ax opens a drawer and pulls them out. I’m ready to scream at them but someone’s hand quickly covers my mouth from behind. My heart speeds up as I drop the phone and Ax catches it before it smashes to the ground.

My heart is going to leap out of my chest and my entire body feels like it is on fire. But my legs stay frozen in place.

“Breathe, Kate,” Eli says from behind me.

Asher looks like his head is going to explode.

I try to get Eli’s hand off my mouth as my father continues instructing Ax which medications to give me.

“Trust me,” Eli says. “Just be quiet, alright?”

“Here,” Ax says, eyeing me but nobody moves.

The bottles stay on the counter untouched.

“Did she take them? Everything all set?”

“Yup,” Ax says. “Piece of cake.”

“Good. I told you she’d be easier to handle now. I’ll call back this evening.”

The call ends and Ax drops the phone on the counter. Eli lets go of me as I look at all of them.

“Why did you lie to him?” I ask Ax wearily.

“I’m not exactly in the habit of forcing pills down someone’s throat,” he snaps.

“No, just holding them down to get injected instead?” I bite back.

I flinch at my own words, surprised that my anger has sparked up so fast. Ax just glares at me.

“We have a meeting to get to. Let’s go.”

His eyes stay on me and I look at Asher and Eli confused. “Wait, me?”

“Wasn’t talking to anyone else, princess. Let’s go, we’re already late.”

“I’m not going to one of your gang meetings,” I tell him, holding my ground.

Eli snickers behind me. “Ax would sooner take those pills himself than take you to one of those meetings.”

“Now, Katie,” Ax barks as he stalks out of the room.

I roll my eyes. “Does he think I’m a fucking dog? I’m not going to come just because he demands it.”

Asher smirks. “What if I demand for you to come?”

I look at him confused, but when he winks at me I roll my eyes. “You pig.”

He chuckles as I walk by him, following after Ax like a good little dog anyways.

Asshole.

I climb into the passenger seat of Ax’s black SUV and he barely glances at me. “Buckle up.”

He starts driving as soon as the buckle clicks and turns the radio up, making it obvious he doesn’t plan to speak to me for the whole ride. When we pull up outside a familiar office building, I just frown in confusion. “Mister Wentworth’s office?” I ask, as I read Bianca’s dad's name on the side of the building.

Ax simply nods as he gets out of the car and I climb out to follow him inside. The receptionist is about to greet us but her eyes scan Ax and she stumbles on her words. “Mister West,” she purrs and I feel like I might gag. “Lovely to see you again.”
