“Is he in his office?” He asks without paying her any mind as he just walks towards a closed door.

Before she can even answer, he swings the door open and glances back at me. The blonde receptionist eyes me like sheonly just realized I was there and gives me a half-ass smile. “Miss Randell,” she greets me far more professionally than she had Ax.

I bite back any smart comments burning my tongue and just throw her a smile as I head towards the open door.

“Ah! Kate! So grown up,” the pot bellied man from the desk says. “Last I saw you, I believe Bianca and you were sneaking back into her bedroom window during sunrise.”

I smile innocently. “I haven’t a clue what you are talking about, Mister Wentworth.”

He chuckles. “I’m sure you don’t. Anyway, Bianca and James here—”

“Ax.”

“Right, right. Ax. They’ve informed me of some legal issues going on. Why don’t you have a seat.”

I glance at Ax as he sits down beside me but before I can ask any questions about what is going on, Mister Wentworth slides paperwork over to me.

“All that’s waiting is your signature.”

I shake my head slightly, unsure what I am missing as I glance over at the stack of paperwork. “Signature for what?”

The lawyer fumbles for words and frowns at Ax. “You didn’t update her?”

“It was a busy morning,” Ax snaps at Mister Wentworth and then turns to me. “This is to end your dad being your proxy.”

My eyes widen in surprise and I look at Mister Wentworth. “Really? How?”

Before Mister Wentworth can answer Ax cuts him off. “Do you want to stop him from having control or not?”

“So, I sign this and I have control over my own life again?“ I ask Ax but turn back to Mister Wentworth considering I trust him to be more clear than Ax is right now.

“Mister West, I’m already walking a thin line…” he sighs.

“Shut up,” Ax warns him and I’m surprised when the old man listens and falls silent.

“Do I get full say over my life?” I repeat to Ax more firmly.

“Your new proxy has no issue with you having complete say over your medical care.”

“Who the fuck is my new proxy?”

I grab up the paperwork still sitting on the desk and scan the sheet, glaring at the name listed.

James Axel West Junior

“Why the hell would you have any say? Are you adopting me and becoming my new guardian?” I hiss.

“You are nineteen years old, you don’t need a guardian,” he spits back.

“I sure don’t need a medical proxy either!”

“I agree. Which is why I definitely don’t plan to be your proxy for longer than a few weeks or however long it takes for your doctor to sign off.”

“Yeah? And I get to pick my own doctor?”

“I assumed you’d want the woman that visited last week but sure, pick whoever the hell you want. Just sign the papers so we can go.”

“But I don’t understand—”
