His jaw tenses and he ignores my comment.

“The babysitters, so to speak,” he sighs as he glances at the guys behind me in the pool. “Are because he must have said something to thatDoctor Thorne. He seems to have disappeared and until I locate him I don’t want you anywhere alone.”

I can feel my happiness of the day unraveling and my head exploding right in front of him.

“Wh—why are you locating him?”

“That’s my business.”

I glare at him. “If it involves me it’s my business. I don’t want anything do with him—”

“That’s not why I’m locating him, Jesus Christ. You really do expect the worst in people, don’t you?”

I frown and shrug silently. He sighs as he flips the steaks on the grill.

“Just,” he sighs. “Go swim or something.”

I turn and spot Bianca cheering on Scott while he tosses the football.

“When did they get here?” I ask, glancing back at Ax.

“I invited them over,” he says and I look at him surprised. “She’s a good friend. You should stop lying to her about what’s been going on with you for the last few years.”

I frown and pull my thumbnail into my mouth. “I’d rather just hide out in your big fancy mansion and forget about it all,” I chuckle.

His hand reaches out to pull my nail from my lips and he smirks. “Not a chance, princess. Go.”

I roll my eyes as I throw the towel back on the chair and pretend the goosebumps on my body aren’t from his eyes on me as I make my way back to the pool. Bianca whistles as I sit beside her and my face reddens.

“Shut up,” I chuckle and she grins at me.

“No way, hot stuff,” she laughs and winks at me. “So, wanna tell me why we were summoned over and why you have the whole Viper gang babysitting you?

I groan. “Later. With lots of tequila?”

“You know I always come prepared, girl!” She laughs and leans to reach into her bag.

She unscrews the bottle and takes a swig before handing it to me. It burns and makes me cough but the second gulp goes down smoother.

“Gonna share?” One of the older guys asks with a grin.

“You’re on the clock, Red,” Asher warns him and Red groans.

“Mean boss,” I chuckle and Red nods.

“Almost as bad as Killer over there,” he says, pointing at Ax.

I laugh and nod my head. “I don’t think I’d wanna work for him. He’s a grump.”

“Who’s a grump?” Another guy asks, this one covered with tattoos even on his face.

“Ax.”

Tattoo Face laughs loudly. “He just needs to get laid.”

Red elbows him. “Know your audience, there are ladies here.”

Bianca laughs loudly and shakes her head as she takes a sip of the tequila. “Don’t worry about us. If it will fix the grumpy mood, I vote we get him a hooker.”
