I roll my eyes at him. “Well, guess my job is done for the day.”

My lips curl up triumphantly as he tries not to laugh.

“You like it?” He finally asks and I nod my head.

“I didn’t really realize how much I missed color,” I admit. “Aside from, you know, arts and craft activities taped up on the wall,” I chuckle.

His smile falters and he steps closer to me, I can practically feel his chest against my back.

“You don't deserve any of what’s happened to you,” he says quietly and I can’t take my eyes off his dark gaze in the mirror. “None of this.”

I open my mouth to spew some awkward nonsense but thankfully he cuts me off before I can stick my foot in my mouth by shaking his head.

“Get some sleep, Katie.”

CHAPTER NINETEEN

“If you are that bored I could train you in the gym,” Asher offers as I continue to whine to him about wanting a job at his bar.

Apparently Ax has final say, despite Asher owning it.

“That sounds miserable,” I admit, scrunching up my face.

Asher grins. “I could make it fun. Teach you how to wrestle. Clothing optional.”

He winks and my cheeks turn red as I shove his shoulder.

“What’d you say, she’s red as a tomato,” Eli laughs entering the kitchen where Asher and I are sharing peanut butter crackers.

“Nothing—”

“May have been suggesting we wrestle in the gym, was that it, Kate?” He asks and I glare at him.

Eli raises an eyebrow at me. “What’s so bad about that? Probably a good thing to learn self defense.”

“See, Eli agrees with my idea.”

“That was not your idea Asher… oh crap, I don’t know your middle name.”

“It’s Maxwell,” Ax says, coming into the kitchen and eyeing the three of us. “I have a personal chef prepare lunches and you three are living off of peanut butter crackers?”

I stick out my tongue covered in cracker dust at him and he makes a disgusted face.

“Wait, so what was his idea?” Eli asks, back tracking.

“Oh my god, nothing,” I laugh.

“May have just mentioned that my work out sessions are clothing optional.”

Eli snickers and Ax gives Asher a dirty look.

“That better have been a pick up line, I don’t need ball sweat all over my gym equipment.”

Asher smirks. “Too late.”

Ax looks ready to punch Asher and I shake my head at them.

“You guys are gross,” I laugh as I hop off the counter.
