Page 63 of Saving Kate

“Alright, alright,” Eli says. “Show’s over. Keep it in your pants, man.”

Scott laughs and lifts up Bianca, bridal style. “Would you be cool if I took her home, Kitty Kat?”

I roll my eyes. “Please do, I don’t wanna see that.”

“Your loss, bitch!” She chuckles and blows me a kiss.

Some of the guys have already left, leaving Red, Tattoo Face and an older guy with his hair in a braid. I take the last swig of tequila from the forgotten bottle and say goodnight to Eli, Asher, and the other guys at the table.

I head up to my room, cursing the stairs with every step. When I finally get to the third floor, I see Ax at his bedroom doorway watching me. “Gonna make it?” He asks with a smile.

“Hardly. I may just crawl the rest of the way.”

He shakes his head at me and I offer him a smile back, considering he’s gifted me with something other than a smirk or scowl.

“Thanks. For inviting Bianca. It was a push I didn’t know I needed.”

“Just gotta learn to trust me, Katie.”

I roll my eyes. “I feel like the more I correct you, the more you just call me that.”

I get to my door and he chuckles.

“I haven’t any idea what you mean.”

I push the door open and my heart pounds nervously.

This isn’t my room.

I mean, it is… I’m not that drunk.

But it’s not how I left it.

The color scheme is the same and everything I had bought with Bianca is still here but now, fairy lights line the wall by the bed, dark mauve colored drapes block the windows, and a gray couch is placed on the other side of the room. The purple rug on the floor looks like it’s never even been stepped on before.

I turn around and see Ax watching me with his arms crossed as he leans against his own door frame across the hall.

“Did— did you do this?”

“Sheila. My decorator.”

“But, why?”

“If it didn’t go well forcing you to talk to Bianca, I figured this might make up for it.”

He smirks and I laugh, shaking my head at him. “You didn’t have to do this—”

“Check the bathroom.”

Curiosity gets the best of me and I walk over toward the bathroom as he follows me. New lights circle the vanity and the walls are a deep gray color. My previous decor has all been replaced with my new color scheme and a new ombré purple shower curtain.

“You did all this today?”

Ax nods with a smug smile.

“I’ll pay you back—”

He sighs and runs a hand through his dark curls. “Stop worrying about the money, Katelyn. You are driving me crazy.”
