“Does that matter?”

“Yes.”

I stare out the window in irritation and find myself chewing my thumb nail again. Somehow he keeps getting me to tell him things I swear I won’t.

“My mom used to call me Katie.”

“You don’t like thinking about her?”

I grit my teeth and shake my head. “Not about the last time I saw her, no.”

“Why?”

“Mind your business,” I snap as I go to slide out of the car but he grips my arm.

His face is hard. “Tell me why, Katie.”

“Screw you. It’s none of your business.”

I wrench my arm from his grasp and head into the house, surprised to find both Asher and Eli in the kitchen.

“Woah, what happened?” Asher asks, eyeing me.

Ax stomps in behind me and Eli sighs.

“You two can’t even handle a ten minute car ride without fighting?”

“Fuck off,” Ax snaps and Eli seems surprised. “Why don’t you like thinking about the last time you saw your mom?”

Asher and Eli pale as they glance at me and Ax.

“Are you really that dense and insensitive you jackass?”

Ax ignores my question. “What’s it make you feel? Guilty?”

My head shoots to the side and meets his angry glare. “You are the biggest asshole I have ever met.”

“Yes, or no!” He shouts at me.

“I’m not having this conversation with you. Fuck you.”

I head to the hallway but Ax grabs my arm before I can leave the kitchen.

“Ax…” Asher says but he’s cut off by Ax glaring at him.

“Admit it. Admit why you don’t like thinking about that day!”

“How do you even know what day I’m talking about! You don’t know anything about me and my mom!”

“You were there when she died, weren’t you?”

“God, my dad really just told you everything, didn't he!”

“If he told me everything already, then go ahead and admit it!”

“Admit what you psycho, let go of me!”

“Ax—” Eli starts and comes near us but Ax shakes his head.
