Kenji laughed, patting Tido’s thigh. “Don't tell me you're going to have a heart attack over a piece of chicken.”

“No, I’m just going to throw up if I eat one more bite. I don’t have any room for anything else. Damn Roman and his amazing cooking.”

But Kenji’s touch hadn’t gone unnoticed. His hand was still resting on Tido’s thigh. Where he touched, Tido’s skin was hot. He was also making Tido’s dick twitch. “Tell me something, Kenji.”

“Anything.” Kenji yawned, and even his yawn was sexy. Tido wouldn’t mind crawling onto Kenji’s lap for…a nap. Nope. Tido wasn’t going to slouch there and imagine what it would be like to have sex with the guy. Then again, hadn’t he told himself earlier, right before he’d come over, that he was going to have a fling with the guy?

“Have you ever found your mate?”

One of Kenji’s eyelids popped open. “You know about mates?”

“Drake explained everything to me.” Tido held the side of his fist to his mouth as he burped. God, that had felt good and made room in Tido’s overstuffed stomach.

“To answer your question, yes.”

Tido’s heart sank. If Kenji had found his mate, he wasn’t available. Maybe he was just a nice guy who liked hanging out. Maybe he didn’t see Tido in any other light.

And if he was mated, Tido didn’t want to be seen in any other light. He wasn’t a poacher, and if Kenji was taken, Tido wasn’t going to pursue this. “When?”

“Today.” Kenji closed his eye. “At the ice cream hut.”

Tido’s brain quickly went over the events from earlier. He hadn’t seen Kenji talking to anyone other than him and Drake. Kenji had smiled at the girl at the hut, the one taking his order, but as far as Tido could tell, Kenji was just being nice.

“Who?”

Kenji chuckled and opened both eyes this time. “Do I really need to spell it out for you?”

“Yes.”

“You.” Kenji sat up. “You smelled like strawberries, which is my ultimate favorite.” The hand on Tido’s thigh squeezed. “You’re my mate, Tido. Does that freak you out?”

“But…” Tido chewed on his lower lip. “You’re just here visiting.”

“And I said I was extending my stay.” He brushed a finger over Tido’s hair. “Tell me why you were trying to freeze me out earlier.”

“I have the worst luck when it comes to men,” Tido confessed. If what Kenji was saying was true, why hold back? He was freaking out about Kenji’s revelation, but Tido was trying his best to keep it together.

“You do?” When Kenji tugged on Tido’s arm, Tido went willingly. He snuggled into Kenji’s side.

“I dated a guy named Craig who kept trying to talk me into orgies, which aren’t my thing, by the way.”

A tiny growl escaped Kenji. “I don’t share, especially not my mate.”

Why did that possessive statement thrill him?

“Then there’s Alan.” Tido told Kenji about him, how Alan had finally inherited the house from his mom and how Tido had been lonely and called him, but now Alan wouldn’t leave him alone.

“Did you tell him things were over?”

“You sound like Drake,” Tido replied. “He’ll get the hint.”

“Some guys don’t,” Kenji said. “You have to tell him, Tido. You can’t just string a guy along.”

“I’m not stringing him along!” Tido sat forward and regretted the quick move. His full stomach protested, moving an inch. “We didn’t do anything when he came over.”

“I invited you to dinner,” Kenji said. “What if, after today, I didn’t call you?”

“I would wonder why,” Tido answered.
