“Exactly.” He kissed Tido’s hair, and Tido wished it was his lips instead. “You have to tell Alan that you and he aren’t dating.”

“Can’t you do it for me?” God, he sounded like a jerk. Who made someone else tell a guy it was over?

“Nope.” Kenji rubbed his hand up and down Tido’s arm. “You have to talk to him. I’ll only step in if he refuses to back down after you’ve told him.”

“Why are you making me do the adult thing?” Tido pouted. He didn’t want to confront Alan. When it came to breaking up, Tido always lost his nerve. He just didn’t have the backbone to give someone bad news. If Alan considered it bad news, that was.

“Because you’re an adult,” Kenji said. “And I had to do the same thing not too long ago.”

Tido sat forward and looked at Kenji. “With who?”

Kenji told him about Maceson. The guy sounded like a real dick. Tido had never dated anyone pretentious before, though his choice of men wasn’t stellar. “Why would he want to know where you took off to?”

Jealousy shot through him, which surprised him since he hadn’t known Kenji for long and had just found out they were mates. He shouldn’t be feeling that way, but tell that to the green-eyed monster who wanted to track Maceson down and slap the crap out of him.

Kenji shrugged. “So he can continue his games.”

“Men suck,” Tido said. “They’re either clingy, dramatic, or just plain jerks.”

“We’re men.”

“We don’t count,” Tido said. “Neither do my friends, and I now consider you one of my friends.” It was the truth. Tido hadn’t realized until this moment that he did consider Kenji a friend, even if they were only introduced this morning. There was just something easygoing about Kenji, which attracted Tido. He liked laidback people, and Kenji seemed as laidback as they came.

“Talk to Alan.”

“I’ll do it over the phone.” Tido was treating Kenji more like a best friend than a regular friend or even a mate. He still didn’t know the full extent of what a mate was, but Tido had seen the way Ajax acted with Drake. How Mason was with Elijah. Or how Roman acted around Gage.

Lord knew Sheriff Harper couldn’t keep his tongue out of Julian’s mouth.

But it was so easy to talk to Kenji, and to be honest, Tido had never opened up so quickly to anyone he’d just met. He liked talking to new people, but he wasn’t Elijah. He didn’t give the person his entire life story.

“See?” Kenji chuckled. “We both have horrible taste in men.”

“Except each other.”

“Except each other,” Kenji agreed.

“Can I see your wolf?” Tido asked, excitement suddenly gripping him. “I’ve only seen one guy shift, and that was years ago and from far away. I’d love to see your wolf up close.”

“If you’re sure you’re ready for it.” Kenji sat up, taking away Tido’s nesting spot. He would give it up if he could see a guy change into an animal.

“Will you know it’s me?” Tido asked.

“Yep, and I’ll be able to understand you, too.”

Tido clapped his hands together. “Then I’m ready.”

Chapter Four

Tido wasn’t sure what to expect, but when Kenji stood and started to remove his clothing, he couldn’t rip his gaze away.

“Our clothes are destroyed in a shift.” Kenji tossed aside his shirt and sat on the couch to remove his shoes and socks.

Tido’s mouth went dry as he watched Kenji take his jeans and underwear off. When Kenji stood, Tido’s gaze slid from the gorgeous man’s face to his broad chest, which had large tattoos from his sternum to his left wrist and from his right pec down his arm. There was even a large one on his abdomen.

Tido would have to be dead not to let his gaze slide lower. The man’s skin was flawless—a pretty brown that was untouched by blemishes—and the sexy V between his hips had Tido’s heart going crazy.

This strong specimen of a man had to be dessert because Tido was ready to dine on him.
