Luther’s eyes flashed with rage, and he dodged Kenji’s attack.

Kenji was quick to respond, dodging Luther’s claws and snapping his jaws at his opponent’s throat. Luther, however, was no easy opponent. He was a seasoned wolf shifter, and even Kenji had to admit he was formidable.

They battled fiercely, their bodies slamming against trees and roots. Luther was a skilled fighter, but it seemed he had grown rusty in his old age.

Kenji saw his opportunity and pounced, sinking his canines into Luther’s side. Luther tried to shake him off, but Kenji’s grip was too strong.

Then Luther spun, knocking Kenji hard into a tree, dislodging him.

Two men lunged for Kenji, interfering when they weren’t supposed to. Mason and Ajax shifted, joining the fight. Chaos ensued. When Kenji looked toward his mate, he saw Kramer had Tido by the throat.

With a howl, Kenji raced toward the SUV, Luther hot on his trail. Kenji should have let Luther kill his son. He’d been a fool to save Kramer from death.

Right before he reached them, Tido reached into his front pocket and drove what looked like a small knife into Kramer’s gut. Kramer staggered backward, glaring at Tido. Then he dropped to his knees.

“No!” Luther shouted from behind Kenji, clearly having shifted into his human form.

Kenji shifted, too, grabbing his mate and using himself as a shield to defend Tido.

“He was going to kill me,” Tido said from behind Kenji. “I had to defend myself.”

“Why aren’t you shifting?” Luther asked as he cradled Kramer’s head. The scene was ironic to Kenji since Luther had been seconds away from killing Kramer himself. Luther glared at Tido. “What did you do to him?”

“Stabbed him with a knife I stole from his house,” Tido snapped. “He shouldn’t have come after me!”

“The knife in the drawer in the living room?” Luther asked.

“Yeah,” Tido admitted.

“That fucking knife is made of pure silver!” Luther thundered. “You’ve just sentenced my son to death!”

Luther lunged for Tido. Everything happened in slow motion. Kenji turned, trying to shove Tido out of the way, as Tido extended his arm. He still held the knife. It plunged deep into Luther’s heart.

The fighting ceased when Luther hit the ground. The loyalists stared wide-eyed at the scene. Tido covered his mouth, spun, dropped to his knees, and vomited.

“I guess they have their new alpha,” Mason said. “Looks like Tido defeated both of them.”

Kenji glared at Mason. “That’s not even funny.”

“Who’s joking?” Mason asked. “He won. The pack is his.” He pointed to something past Kenji.

When Kenji turned, he saw a lot of the townspeople behind him. It was William, a sweet and caring wolf, who stepped forward. “We’d be happy to have Tido as our alpha.”

The wolf had always gotten into trouble, sneaking into places where he didn’t belong, sometimes exploring unsafe places. Kenji had always liked him, but fuck if Tido was the new alpha. Kenji had never wanted to come back to Greenwood and fuck if Tido was taking the position.

Tido stood and wiped at his mouth. “Did I just kill Luther?”

“You sure did.” Ajax grinned. “Hail the new alpha, even if he’s human and a cute little twink.”

“Will you stop?” Kenji snarled at Ajax.

Tido narrowed his eyes. “I’m telling Drake you called me that.”

Ajax’s smile fell. “Okay, I take it back.”

William ran forward and took Tido’s hands in his. “I can be your beta, if you want.”

The guy was Tido’s height and build. The only thing he could command was a line of ants to an ant hill. “This isn’t funny,” Kenji repeated.
