“Are you going to leave us leaderless again?” William asked as he looked up at Kenji. “Tido won the fight. He killed both Kramer and Luther.”

Tido snatched his hands away. “I’m not even a wolf.”

“Your mate is,” William said. “Who says we can’t have two alphas?”

“How did you know we were mates?” Tido asked. “I never told anyone.”

“Hon,” William said, “no one fights to the death for a human unless it’s their mate.” He pursed his lips. “Though I’d fight to the death for you since you’re my new alpha. But don’t ask me to, because I don’t know how to fight. Besides, you showed bravery back at Kramer’s house.”

“I snuck out of a room!” Tido argued.

“And you did it bravely,” William said.

“What do you say?” Ajax asked Kenji. “Mated pair as alphas?”

Kenji looked around at the hopeful looks on everyone’s faces. If he refused, some other wolf who treated the pack just as cruelly might try to take over. This was his town. These were the people he’d grown up with, people he respected.

Except for the loyalists.

Kenji glanced at Tido. “What do you think?”

Tido looked wide-eyed at Kenji. “You can’t be serious.”

Kenji turned to Ajax. “Tido and I will discuss this on our way back to Midnight Falls.”

“Come back real soon,” William said to Tido. “I can’t wait to get to know you better!”

Kenji couldn’t believe he was even considering this, but the way Tido smiled warmly at William sealed the deal.

A growl rumbled in Kenji’s throat when he saw Maceson step forward.

“Who is that?” Tido whispered.

“Maceson.” Kenji watched as Maceson approached them, a syrupy smile on his face.

“You defeated Luther and Kramer. We should celebrate together,” Maceson said, his eyes filled with seduction.

“Kenji is mated,” William said with a curled lip.

“To you?” Maceson looked incredulously at William.

“To me,” Tido said fiercely. “Back off or you’ll meet the same fate as Luther and Kramer.”

“Tido killed both of them,” William said proudly. “He’ll cut a bitch if they put their hands on his mate.”

Kenji chuckled. “You heard them. I’m taken, Maceson.”

Tido turned to Kenji, and Kenji could tell his mate wanted him to play along. “As alpha, I think Maceson needs to find somewhere else to live. After all, he was in on that demon attack and knew Luther was out to kidnap you, although I was taken instead.”

Actually, that wasn’t a bad idea. Besides, no way would Kenji want to live in Greenwood with Maceson. The guy would continue to play games, and Kenji dreaded dealing with that. The guy was too petty not to fuck with Tido.

“You heard him,” Kenji said as he crossed his arms. “Pack your bags.”

“But…” Maceson looked at Ajax.

“I’m not the alpha anymore.” Ajax shrugged. “I’d do what Tido said if you know what’s good for you.”

“I wasn’t serious,” Tido whispered to Kenji as Maceson stormed away. “I was just flexing in front of your ex.”
