Her words held a note of finality that I couldn’t challenge.

I’d learn his name eventually, but for now…I could be patient.

I swiftly pulled myself to my feet and offered her a hand. I didn’t know why I expected Sienna to take it, but when she pushed herself from the ground without my help, brushing the dirt from her clothes and scowling at me, my smile became slightly less jaded.

“Are you going to keep running from me?”

“Are you going to threaten to sell me to a prostitution ring again?”

I chuckled and shook my head, gesturing to the car. With a heavy sigh, she followed.

When she sat in the passenger’s seat, not daring to meet my eye, I spoke again. “What happened to you before will never happen again,” I swore to her. “Not under my watch.”

Sienna

My mind lingered on the way his lips felt against my skin, and Icouldn’tstop the way I trailed my fingers over all the places he’d touched on the drive home, considering the way it had felt to be touched.

He hadn’t taken off a single article of clothing.

He hadn’t done more than trail his lips and tongue along my least delicate patches of skin.

But the way he’d placed his hand between my legs—the way he’d gently massaged me there—had me silent for the entire car ride.

“We’re going to be home in time for family dinner,” he told me as he pulled onto his road. “I expect that you’ll be well-behaved.”

I narrowed my eyes. “You expect me not to tell them that I’m being held against my will?” I elaborated.

“That would be preferred, but it’s not necessary.”

I considered what I knew of his family. His father had been in prison for years, and he had a brother, though I hadn’t been successful in finding him. I hadn’t been able to see within Dante’s primary residence, though I sometimes saw employees leaving through various exits.

The house was used primarily for business, and I knew there were unseen exits that allowed for privacy.

I knew there were people I hadn’t cataloged. It didn’t seem important when the goal was to be in and out of this house within a couple of weeks.

“No promises,” I told him as he pulled into an underground parking garage. I looked around carefully, finding it sectioned off into various different lots.

“Who’s going to be here?” I asked.

“You’ll see.”

In the time it took me to unfasten my belt and reach for the handle, Dante was already at my side, opening the door and offering a hand. I didn’t take it as I swung my legs from the car and stood, waiting for him to guide me toward his house.

He placed a hand on the small of my back and wordlessly pushed me toward the underground entrance of his home.

I wanted to kick myself for the flutters that manifested in my belly. I would soonkillhim. I was here for that reason alone. Mybody’s reaction to him didn’t matter, and I could push past it long enough to get the information Valentino needed.

How could a womannotphysicallyreact to a man who looked like Dante? With his rugged, scruffy jawline, dark hair, and eyes that both seduced and intimidated with their fierce efficiency.

It would have been more concerning if there was no attraction involved. I could both despise and feel attraction for him. He wasn’t the person who killed my father. He just represented that man, so I had no reason to feel guilty about it.

He opened the door to his home, and the scent of roast meat hit me immediately. It smelled like he had a personal chef on his staff. I hadn’t eaten all day, and my mouth felt like it was watering from the thought of what had been prepared.

“Dante, is that you?” a lightly accented woman’s voice called from the top of the stairs.

We began making our way upward, and he replied with a grunt of confirmation. My chest tightened as a petite Hispanic woman came into view, wearing an apron and smiling brightly at Dante.
