We didn’t have to wait long.

Adrenaline still coursed through me, dulling some of the pain from my injuries as I sat behind the door. It could only open from the outside, and when it did, it would be our only opportunity.

The lock on the door clicked, and I jumped to my feet, shaking off the slight dizziness that plagued me. When two men strode through the door, I struck. I moved forward with one arm, slamming a fist into one man’s face and shoving him into the far wall. He toppled as I gave the second man my attention.

He reached for the gun at his side, but I caught his hand with mine and pointed it to the ground before sliding between his open legs and clipping him in the groin. He groaned as I came up behind him and pulled the gun from his hand. I unloaded it and allowed the bullets to fall across the floor.

I addressed the other man again, going straight for him and wrapping my one good arm around his throat. I curled both legs around him and held tightly as he slammed my back into the wall, trying to dislodge me. He lifted his gun, and I winced as it went off, shooting straight through the ceiling. I grabbed it from his hand as he began lagging and pointed it at the other man who tried and failed to gather his bullets from the floor.

If one shot was fired, one more wouldn’t hurt, I supposed.

The man stopped fighting me, finally falling to the ground atop me. I held on for just a moment longer, making sure he was truly unconscious.

“Come on, we’re getting out of here,” I said, pulling myself upright from the unconscious man and reaching for his pockets. A phone. A set of keys. That would do.

I wouldn’t let anything happen to Bria. She was my family now, and I wouldn’t let Valentino hurt her. Not because of me.

Dante

The entire manner was clear, and blood dripped from the walls of each hallway and room. My men stood around, taking in the carnage with widened eyes, but nobody said a word. Not with me standing there.

Valentino wasn’t there.Nobodyimportant was here, and it seemed nobody knew exactly where he was. The common consensus was a “safehouse,” but no one could answer the biggest question.

Where was the fucking safehouse?

I flexed my fist, feeling the sticky remnants of blood all across my hand. I wiped it on my thigh as I pulled my ringing phone from my pocket and pressed it to my ear without looking at the caller’s ID.

“Did you find it?” I asked.

“Dante.”

The voice on the other end sent chills down my spine.

“We’re not going to be able to get out of here alone, but we’re safe. We’re okay for now.” It was Sienna. I glanced at the phone and found a random number. “I—I have Bria, and she’s unharmed.”

“What about you? Are you unharmed?”

Her slight pause told me all I needed to know.

“Where are you?” I demanded. “Give me a location.”

“Dante,” she said, her tone more serious than I’d ever heard it. “If you do anything irrational, you’ll be killed, and it will all be over, okay? You have to have a clear head, and it doesn’t sound like that’s the case right now.”

How the hell could she tell from the few things I’d said?

“Where are you?” I growled.

“We’re at Valentino’s complex. It’s a safehouse that almost nobody knows about. Listen to me. If you come in here guns blazing, it will be a deathtrap. You might be able to get away with doing that anywhere else, but not here.”

“I’ll bring a damnarmy,and—”

“Dante,” she growled, cutting me off. “Fucking listen to me, okay? He has guards and traps here. He designed this place to keepoutan army. Even if an army may work, you’d die in the process. As would most of your people. When you come, youhave to come with a small group—small enough that nobody will be caught. I knew that he wanted you dead, but I didn’t realize he wanted it this badly.”

“I can bring a small group. I can sneak in. I can do whatever you need me to do, but I need the address.”

“Go through the back door. There are less sensors there. There are cameras everywhere, so they’ll see you no matter what. They have a laser system installed at the front and left entrance, and you won’t make it through without being killed by it. There are rigged traps at the ends of each hallway that will go off without a code. 41892 is the code. Or it was the last time I was here. He could have changed it, so you can’t bet your life on that.” She paused. “There’s too much to tell you, Dante. Even if I don’t know the full extent of his traps, Idoknow the place has an army of fully armed guards.”
