“I think you might be right by the look of her embarrassed red cheeks.” Zoe giggles.

Titch takes a few minutes to talk with some of our brothers before he approaches me, Zoe, and Rocco, giving us a nod.

“I’m ready.”

“Don’t go being a hero.” Rocco grumbles. “All we need from you is to get intel. Bring it back to us, and then we can finally finish things.”

Titch nods, and I release Zoe to grip his shoulders, looking him dead in the eyes. “Be fucking careful.”

He nods quickly, and I release him before he turns to leave, Munroe, Stretch, Doug and Tio following behind.

They are taking a couple of Dante’s vehicles to try and stay as close by as they can without being noticed, while the rest of us stay here and wait, hoping we don’t have to go in and save our prospect at any point.

“This is making me nervous.” Zoe admits quietly, and I nod, because I fucking agree.

“We need to keep everyone busy, but sober. Perhaps you and the girls can arrange some salads, and I’ll get Sully to start cooking meat on the BBQ.”

Nodding like she’s thankful to be given a task to keep her busy, Zoe presses her lips to mine briefly before rounding up the women.

“She’s good for you.” Rocco admits as he turns to me, and I notice the shadows under his eyes.

“Why don’t you just call Cara? With everything that’s going on, are the rules really that fucking necessary?”

Sighing, he nods. “The rules are more important than ever. We still may have a mole, and Gunner was not who we thought he was. It’s going to gut some of the guys when we tell them.”

I nod back, knowing he’s right.

“So now we just wait,” I say and he sighs.

“Now we just wait.”

Thecallcameinat a little after eleven. Titch had been collected from Live Oak, taken to a property near Aptos where the guys were able to watch from different vantage points to see that it was a vacant block with an old shed, and a bonfire. It looked like a regular teen hangout apart from the fact there were no women. Which I know for a fact, they were promised.

The men counted eight Reapers in attendance, and it looked like their job was to get the possible recruits blind drunk. Then, when they were all staggering, a few already hurling, the Reapers loaded them into a van and drove them to an old ranch north of Day Valley.

Munroe and Stretch were concerned, because the ranch was deep into thick trees, and they had no way of seeing the property without actually setting foot on it.

So Rocco made the decision. It was time to attack. If it’s not the correct location, then we will wear that, but Titch was in that van, and a little while after getting to the property, we lost the signal on the tracker.

“I don’t want you to go,” Zoe pleads, her eyes brimming with tears as I check that my weapons are loaded, and I have enough ammo in my pockets.

“Princess. This is what I do. Please don’t worry yourself,” I wrap my hand around her throat, tilting her chin up as I hover my lips over hers. “Stay here. Stay safe. Do not go outside. Not for anything. Understand?”

Nodding, she closes the distance, claiming my lips, and I take this moment to remind her with my lips and tongue how much she means to me.

“Let’s go!” Rocco bellows, and I pull back to see the remaining men start filing out to the trucks.

Cain is the only one staying behind, and while I know he can handle himself, I can’t help but feel anxious about leaving Zoe. I want her with me at all times, but this isn’t one of them. She’s safer here.

“I’ll be back, Princess,” I rasp, turning my attention back to her as I massage my shoulder. It started aching the minute the call came in, and I’m fucking worried it’s a sign. Like how some people’s bodies ache when it’s going to rain. Maybe my shoulder is a barometer for a fucking catastrophic event.

“Have your cunt slick and ready, because when I return, I’m not letting you go.”

My words spark desire and determination in her eyes, and she reaches up, pressing her lips to mine for one last searing kiss before I leave.

I give her ass a slap as I pass her, and when I glance back over my shoulder at her, she’s smiling as she rubs her globe.
