Sean hung up without a goodbye.

I wanted to be just as much of a brat as him and allow my feelings to be hurt for being dismissed so quickly, but I knew what he faced. The trouble Elite might find themselves in should the concocted story of abuse leak to the press.

Sean hadn’t held anything from me, explaining in detail about the attempt at extortion, who the client truly was without giving me his name, and the warrants already out for his arrest. I wished more than once I was some tech guru, a computer whiz who could locate the asshole and end the nightmare haunting my sweet boy.

The waiting proved difficult.

I cleared my plate and poured myself a glass of wine rather than cleaning the dishes.

Sean: He’s in custody!!!

My breath left like a punch to the gut, and I sank onto the couch.

Me: I’m so happy to hear it.

Sean: I’ll call you when I can.

One weight lifted from my mind, I enjoyed my wine in silence, imagining Sean at my feet, smiling up at me. His relief would have him bouncing off the walls, highly energized, and in the mood to celebrate.

My cock hopped onto that train of thought, but I ignored the fantasies wanting to unfurl in my head.

An exhausted Sean had been tough to keep up with. I couldn’t imagine the boy hopped up in full exuberance. He would wear me out.

I grew contemplative, wondering over how deeply I’d fallen with a young man who’d probably slept with more men than I had acquaintances throughout my life.

Would I be enough for Sean?

Would he grow bored with having the same body in bed with him every night if we even got to the point of trying for a relationship?

Would his antsy feet make him seek out new forms of excitement that didn’t include his old professor’s ass?

I’d never been an insecure man, but the troubling questions littered my brain, and the second glass of wine I enjoyed while waiting for my obsession to call me didn’t quiet them one bit.

My cell rang, waking me up. Blinking the living room into focus, I realized I’d passed out on the couch, something I rarely did.

Sean.

Relief washed through my already slackened muscles as I answered. “Sean?”

“Hey, Teach.” The buoyancy in his voice roused me from sleep, and I smiled, stretching out into a more comfortable position. “So that fucker is behind bars, but he got in touch with a news anchor before the police busted his door down.”

Alarm spread through me, dissolving my smile as I glanced at the clock. It had been over three hours since Sean had texted me. “What happened?”

“Of all people Zerig could email, it ended up being a past, one-time customer of EEMM.”

“Get the fuck out!” I huffed a laugh.

“Nope. The guy called me before I could leave the office, and it took a little begging on my part, but he’s agreed to sit on the story for now.”

My grin faded. “Why not get rid of it altogether?”

“Because he’s aiming to become a prime-time anchor, and this kind of exclusive news could pave his way.”

“What an ass.”

“Micah knows the exec of the station and might be able to pull some strings, but we’ll see. While we’re far from in the clear, at least we know this shit won’t go any further in the immediate future.”

“That’s good,” I murmured.
