Me: That’s my good boy.

Sean: I could be an even better boy if you’d like some company.

Me: Can I come to you this time?

Sean: You can COME to me, on me, or in me whenever the hell you want, Teach. Preferably sooner than later.

The things he said…

Me: Be there in twenty.

Sean: Don’t you need my address?

Snickering, I texted back that I might have done some perusing of his paperwork at college.

Sean: Such a rule breaker, stalking me like that.

Me: I blame you.

Sean: I’ll gladly take that. Now, get your ass over here so I can wrap my heels around it while you fill my hole with that delicious dick of yours. And bring a bag because I’m not letting you out of my bed until morning.

“Jesus,” I hissed, adjusting my cock in my sweats.

I hurried into my room to pack some clothes like he’d suggested, bumping into Katie’s bureau in my haste.

The vase jostled, and I pulled up quickly, my hand shooting out to keep the glass from toppling over.

A relieved, rushed exhale left my lips that I’d caught it in time—but the slightest breeze I’d created with my mouth brushed over the brittle stem and its single petal. The dried piece detached and fluttered downward in silence, coming to rest atop the wooden surface.

The last petal had fallen.

I waited for pain to lance my chest, tears at the very least to well in my eyes and haze my vision.

But no curse, no promise of a lonely future settled over me.

I’d thought my chance for a happily ever after had been ripped away from me along with Katie’s last breath, but perhaps the loss of that petal was the sign from beyond I’d been waiting for that she approved of my choice.

I want you to be happy.

Katie’s final words to me whispered through my mind.

A small smile curved my lips, and I didn’t mourn my loss—of her or the representation of that single flower I’d kept in her memory.

“I hope you find happiness. I hope you find peace,” I quoted what I always did while reminiscing our time together beside her grave. “I hope you remember our love as I do, but I’m finally ready to move on. I’m going to grab hold of my second chance and live life to the fullest.”

Quietness lingered in our bedroom after the words left me, but it was a peaceful silence rather than aching emptiness of grief from being alone. My heart felt light, excitement for a new beginning making my feet eager to move.

A few, quick minutes later, I started up my car, my mind returning to the phone call that had prompted my rush to pack.

Who had contacted the dean about me and Sean? Perhaps another student in our classroom who’d noticed how we looked at one another? We’d done well in keeping our distance from everyone except…

Hanson.

“No.” I snipped the word aloud to myself while merging onto Route 1. “No way he would do that—hey, Siri, call Hanson.”

Calling Hanson, a feminine British voice replied.

“Matteo!” he answered. “Were your ears ringing? Albert and I were just talking about you.”
