“Ican’t believe how welcoming Jeff’s parents have been. I was afraid they’d call me a squatter and tell me to get out.”

I laugh, wrapping her in my arms. “Nah, angel. They’re good people. And they love you. Not as much as I do.” I twirl her around, her laughter music to my ears. “Nobody loves you as much as me.”

“I’d be worried if they did.” Her hands slide over my shoulders to the back of my neck as her face grows serious. “I’m so glad I’m here with you, Chase.”

I tighten my grip on her, pulling her closer to me. “I can’t express how glad I am to be here with you.” My gaze bores into hers, seeing what she’s trying so hard to hide inside her beautiful amber irises. “How are you really feeling about what happened with your mom earlier?” I sway her gently in my arms, waiting for her answer.

She bites her lip before giving me a small smile. “I can’t fool you, can I?” Her smile widens when I shake my head, waiting for her to continue. “I’m upset. I knew she wasn’t going to like me leaving with you, but to say I’m not welcome there, that cut deep.”

My hand slides to her face, cupping it. “That’s her loss, angel. Although her words surprised me. I never thought Pearl would go that far.” I tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

“I hate to admit this, but when mom said I was unwelcome, it made me feel… Abandoned. Unworthy.” Tears fill her eyes, and she turns her head, blinking rapidly so they don’t fall.

“Hey, Kenz. Listen to me.” Grabbing her chin, I gently turn her face to mine. “You are the most incredible person I’ve ever met. Everything about you. Your smile, the way you taste and smell. The feeling of your lips against mine, your warm breaths on my skin. You’re huge heart and concern for others, especially me.” I’m awestruck as I stare down at the only girl I’ve ever wanted but never thought I’d have. If I’m honest with myself, I never thought I deserved her. “You’re an addiction I never wanna quit. An obsession that consumes me all the way to the cells inside my body. You’ve crawled so deeply inside the broken pieces of my heart, your essence glued it back together, repairing the tarnished pieces of my blackened soul.”

Her eyes soften from my words, but I see the doubt there. She still doesn’t believe me when I tell her how incredible she is.

But I have to try. I want her to see herself the way I see her. “I want you, every single day, for the rest of my life. One day in the very, very distant future, when we’ve lived a long, amazing life filled with the type of love that grows deeper every day, the kind that others are envious of, and our time on earth is done, I hope our hearts stop beating at the same time so neither of us must live a second without the other. Hand in hand, we’ll step into the afterlife together, loving one another for an eternity."

She blinks at me, moisture in her eyes. Her expression is soft, and her eyes are full of love and adoration. “Chase,” she breathes out my name like a content sigh, as though she’s floating on a cloud. “That is the sweetest thing you’ve ever said to me.” Shaking her head, she gazes at me in wonder. “Just when I think you can’t get any more amazing, you say something that leaves me breathless.” Her hand slips from my neck, sliding between us and resting over my heart. “I love you so much.” Her voice cracks as she blinks rapidly, fighting back tears. “I’m yours, Chase. Every piece of me. Take whatever you want from me.”

“I want all of you forever, angel. I own you, just like you own every fragment of me.” My head lowered, lips covering hers, tasting a mixture of her strawberry lip gloss and the coffee she drank on the way home. The taste is decadent.

When I pull back, I give her a huge smile, my eyes dancing with happiness. “I have a surprise for you. Something I know you’ll like.”

Her brows furrow, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. “What is it?”

“Come with me.” Stepping back, I hold out my hand. Leading her up the stairs, we’ve just reached the hallway when I hear the doorbell. “Perfect timing.”

Jeff grins, opening the door. Mike Collins stands there, a smile spreading over his face.

“Dad.” Mackenzie grins at me before releasing my hand and running over to him. He steps inside, throwing his arms around her and hugging her tightly.

“I’m sorry about what happened with your mom, baby girl.” He pulls back, his eyes full of sorrow. Even though I can’t see her face, I know her amber irises are full of the same emotion by the slump of her shoulders.

Mike’s gaze lifts and he smiles at me. “Chase, my boy. Get over here.”

A smile spreads on my face as he holds out his arms and I step into his embrace. He squeezes me, patting me on the back. “Don’t feel guilty. You did nothing wrong.”

Mackenzie embraces both of us. “Dad’s right, Chase. Don’t feel guilty. I told you not to take the choice away from me and you allowed me to make it. I chose you.”

I nod, overwhelmed by the emotions flowing through me. When Mackenzie steps back, followed by Mike, I grab Mackenzie and pull her to my side, kissing her temple. “No one has ever chosen me before. Until you.”

She smiles up at me. “I’ll always choose you, my whiskey tango.”

My heart nearly explodes inside my chest from that nickname. Leaning against her ear, I whisper, “You know what that does to me.”

Mike clears his throat. “I did what you asked, Chase.”

Lifting my head, I give him a big smile. “Thank you.” Looking down at Kenz, I wink. “Part one of the surprise is outside.” I tug her to the coat rack, grabbing her coat and holding it for her so she can put it on. As she slips it on, she gives me a salacious smile. Glancing at Jeff and Mike, who are deep in conversation, I discreetly adjust my hard cock. I whisper in her ear, “You’re going to pay for that later, my love.”

“I look forward to it.” She grabs my coat, and I take it from her hands. “Now show me what the surprise is.”

Guiding her outside, I step aside so she can see it. She blinks a few times when she sees the vehicle her parents bought her parked in the driveway.

“No sense in it sitting in the garage. I hope you’ll continue your lessons with Chase and get your driver’s license.”

“Dad. Thank you.” Mackenzie throws her arms around him. “I will.” When she steps back, she looks over at the vehicle and then back to her dad. “But your car is in the driveway. How did you get it here?”
